Where does Your Username come from?

For me, I have had a piece of conversation ready in case somebody asks me about a hobby'
Them :'what do you do, do you have a hobby?'

'I collect fridge magnets'

Them :' that's interesting, how many do you have'

Me : 'one'

Every collection has to start somewhere:)

That is really funny. You know I've seen your name around here many times but never bothered to read it closely. My brain interpreted it as something like "Figment of imagination" :tonguewink:

My name comes as a handle I'm using for everything online that requires a handle since I have escaped from my abusive ex last spring and essentially restarted life. A "Pariah dog" is used a couple of ways. One as a general term for a stray dog. A second for a specific breed of dog native to India (called Pariah dog), which exists primarily in stray form there, solitary and scavenging what it can. It is a fitting name for me as a person and the mostly solitary way I am comfortable living life. Even the scavenging part has some connection :grinning:.

It is also a loose reference to a song lyric by one of my favorite bands, "Rush" in the song "Far Cry."

It isn't very inventive I'm afraid. I wanted a different username than the one I used on that other aspie site that descended into chaos, cyber-bullying and fighting. I settled on Pax, which is Latin for Peace. :p

Years ago I took a literary analysis class that focused on American poets. I had written a poem that semester, so I asked the professor if he would analyze it. He agreed to do so and gave it the full treatment. He wrote that the logic was circular but that the orbit was beguiling. Both the poem and the critique have long disappeared but that description stuck with me and has been my username ever since.

"Ambi" from "ambivalent". I was very ambivalent about whether I should post on this forum. Unfortunately, "Ambi" is also a line of skin brightening products, lol:)

I'm glad you overcame your ambivalence, @Ambi. (As a side note, when I see your user name, I think of the sleeping aid Ambien. That's not to say that your posts put me to sleep! Quite the contrary. :grinning:)

Lol - yeah, it makes me think of Ambien, too! I'm so glad this forum has been full of so many wonderful people. I was worried I'd be eaten alive by meanies ;)

When I joined, I loved Los Angeles and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Equestria is the world it's set in. I still love L.A, but MLP has faded for me.

my most favorite usernames were already forgiven (by me, because I use in every forum a new name), so I randomly took this and because for me it sounds cool. but it just means "Pampelmuse" in german lol.

I used like nearly 70 (or maybe less or more) usernames so far and I already forgot the most. but in some forums I just posted 1 post or so.

I've worn mutton chop side burns for a super long time and the nieces and nephews always called me uncle wolverine while they were growing up. I still get told once a week or so that I look like wolverine even though I've lost most of my muscle tone and my hair is over 50% gray now.

From an Elgar composition referencing a poem titled "The Dream of Gerontius" by Cardinal Newman.
Also Latin for old man and I have never really felt young or related well to youth culture even though I'm in my mid twenties.

Mine is a bastardization of two other languages, meaning both that I teach on all subjects and that I cut through. It reminds me of my goal to cut through all the hooey coming at me, as well as a daily reminder that I have a terrible habit of constantly teaching rather than conversing.

It's one of a few anagrams of my name that I use for ghostwriting or just shadow projects. Most of the entertainment work that I do is either NDA / hush hush / spec-quiet / polish and fix / secret, and you wouldn't know I had anything to do with it, in the first place...or that I just feel better not being in a spotlight about it, so I actually chose to use a pseudonym. So many folks in the entertainment industry use stage names, anyway, and when you learn the craziness of the business to it all, you appreciate it and really want to do the same thing yourself.

Anonymity is chosen by most of us, as well. It's just more comfortable and freeing.
