I was getting dressed to go to work and saw it on the news. I called a paralegal and asked her to bring a small TV to our office. We huddled around the TV, watching what was happening. I had previously scheduled a Blood Services van to visit our office that day so anyone who wanted to could donate blood, sometime I did twice a year. When the van arrived at our office that morning, we were told that our blood was being shipped directly to NYC that same day. It made us feel like we were doing something to help. But just a day or two later, I heard on the news that no more blood was needed in New York because there were so few survivors.
I remember how quiet the world was - no airplanes and people basically in shock.
I also had stayed at a hotel in the WTC several times on business trips to NYC and loved the restaurant on top of one of the buildings. It was ghastly to watch a place that I was familiar with crumble and people jumping out the windows. Surreal.
Peace to everyone affected by that awful day.
