So this just blew up in my face awhile back but l did stick up for the guy which l think maybe is autistic.

So this mechanic sorta came on to me. And life sorta rambled on after that. So l called a couple of years later to see if he had any used luxury cars for sale. Then it turned into a bunch of requests and x-rated. Never quite sure how it gets to this point. So anyways, l backed off, no calls, nothing.

Then his wife starts texting me. Are you seeing him? Because you can have him. He is fighting a DUI and his repair shop is going to be closing . In fact she says l have to drive him to court tomorrow. I stuck up for the guy. Just figured he was going thru breakdown, and that was it.

At a restaurant l worked at, this lady took off her wedding ring, and handed it to me, and told me l could have her husband. I think l set to many imaginations in action. She truly believed l was seeing him. I told her, fine, let's go there after work and resolve this. She finally accepted l wasn't seeing him.

Getting to old for this. Does anybody have crazy stories like this?

Sorry about those experiences.

Speaking for myself, I'm usually pretty quiet/shy but friendly in real life. I wonder if perhaps you're the same way, but are perceived as being very attractive, that others feel threatened because they misintrepret your behaviour as hiding something?

Sounds like she's insecure about her relationship with him. Interpreted your actions as something they weren't.

Guess a good point here is to realize that people may do or say things that we take personally, however it may not be us at all. I think l am learning this finally, to step back and see that people go thru thoughts and project this on to others. We need to be more proactive and less reactive. If anything, use this an opportunity to talk to people more truthfully which does mean stepping out of our comfort zone and this prevents me staying awake the entire nite thinking wtfruit.

I have encountered similar behaviours from people. I can't recall being mistaken for a romantic rival but there are so many people that seem to misread my intentions.

I agree with you that this is likely people projecting on to us. It can be darned tiresome.

This story may seem strange to begin with but stick with me :-). Once I bought an NVidia GPU from a store and had to return it because it didn't work. It was quite a pain, eventually the store offered me a much better AMD Radeon GPU for the same price.

A couple of days later I approached my desk at work and someone had placed a boxed NVidia GPU on my desk. It was a lower spec version and much lower than the AMD one. I sat down and started examining the box and eventually asked, "does anyone know where this came from?".

One of my colleagues told me he had brought it in as he had just upgraded his. I started talking about doing the same but that I had returned it to the store. Then the same guy interrupted and in a really condescending voice "You can't have it Mildred."

I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what on earth made him decide I was asking for it. Yeah I was interested at looking at it. But I wasn't trying to snag it.

I'm quite amazed at the wild stories people will invent about other people and then seem rather biased and see them through the lense of their fantasy. As with a lot of people attached to delusions, they don't like to give them up so easily.

Wouldn't it be crazy to think over half of the things we go thru are just other people's projections?

I actually think that over half could be a little optimistic based on my experience, though I am referring mainly to a certain previous employer. It provides a rich vein of "wait what!?" moments! :smilecat:

Another example was in one of my first posts where I told the story about commenting on how bright the sun was so early outside to a colleague who had just arrived. He responded with "You aren't the only one who gets here early Mildred!".

I had been chatting with another colleague when this happened and looked at him bewildered. I'm glad he was there actually because the expression on his face indicated he was equally as confused as I was!

Instances like this are troubling enough, but when people in positions of power or authority behave like this, it can be quite dangerous!

I'm watching the news about the guy who murdered those 4 students' psychopath or sociopath then leads to me cringing when the news media then will start stating how much of a loner he is and how he lacks emotion. sounds familiar.

This is the sort of thing that makes me very afraid. It sends the message that if you are different, eg. someone who prefers a bit of solitude rather than galavanting around and gossiping with your neighbours, then you are potentially dangerous.

It always makes me think of Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird.

I don't know much about what happened. To be honest I try not to view stories like that on the news as it distresses me and also it makes me realise just how far behind the human race is in terms of it's evolution.

The media love a nice horror story.

This is important fact. As a female, l can be a loner, and nobody thinks much about it. But a younger guy as a loner is immediately considered suspicious. There is always those labels we bang into daily, we are busy masking to fit in, and blend in.

i remember years ago just going for a walk woman in front of me always worried about her suddenly turning around and getting a face full of pepper spray. once the lady in front of me looked nervous when we ended up at the destination it was my landlady's daughter, I could not see her face as she was in front of me and obviously, we were going to the same house.,

This is not so sexually illicit, but I have had a guy treat me like a know-it-all after I gave a restrained info dump. I did not even know that he felt that way until he apologized for it later.

Other people have reacted to my giftedness* in similar fashion from time-to-time. I do not seek to be a "show off," just to be helpful when I can be.

*In my case, the autism & giftedness are intermingled.

It's like we get taken over, and spill. I have had people just shocked at my logic tongue and their eyes say where did that come from? My brain is sifting info , trying to make sense of everything. Or l am just a bump on a log trying to coast.
