I recently got let go from my job due to the fact that I could not concentrate well and I also have a medical condition that flares up when I am stressed - it flared up twice in the 9 months I was at this job. I have worked in customer service for over 25 years but lately my ability to focus and multi-task are crumbling, so my last 3 jobs ended up with my being either on the verge of being let go due to not being able to grasp concepts or learn new things, and I switched jobs before that happened, or actually getting let go for the same reasons. I am receiving unemployment right now and am looking for a new job but don't know how it won't end the same way the last 3 have. what sort of work can I do, without a college degree, with 25 years of experience in a job I don't want to do anymore? I used to be the best worker at every job, but after my ASD son was born things started to fall apart in my mind. Like I was rebelling against myself. I am actually considering applying for disability. But I don't know. Who here has a job that works for them, and what is it? I'm in my late 40s and not prepared to go back to school to get a degree.

Hi Rachel,
Really sorry to hear that. Im an Engineer and in my 40's also. It is a field which is part of my special interest. I have found some weird stuff happening to me in recent years, focus being one of them. Ive been told by my Physcologist that our brain chemistry changes as we get older, which is a contributing factor.
Is there something in your special interest area you could build on perhaps. Something youve always been interested in and could expand into work

Well, I really have always only wanted to be a writer. My ADD gets in the way of my being able to just sit and write, though. I guess I need to work on the self-discipline part and I am signed up for a weekly newsletter on how to make money writing articles and stuff, but it's just I need some confidence - building. I have had 3 articles published - one was as a NYT online guest blogger - so it's not like I don't have a bit of experience and success. It's just it's not enough.

I am not able to help but there are other writers on the forum, Hello Dizzy writes a column for an on line web site.
