    To a cat, a good idea is climbing up the front of the radio and trying to rip the cloth out of the speakers to figure out where the voice is coming from. Thanks a lot, cats.

    Every middle class household had to have a replica cathedral radio in the living room as a conversation piece. My tastes are more towards Streamline Moderne though.

    @oregano that's interesting. I do have this old Majestic 50 which is an original tombstone/cathedral set. But it was only $10 so how can I pass that up. Thankfully kitty hasn't decided to eat it yet.

    I have a Philco 66 in the shed awaiting repair. I bought it for $30 after finding it in a barn during an estate sale in Etna, Calif., in 2023. For that price it was too good to pass up. The Philcos of that era had all sorts of weird proprietary components under the chassis so as to force the owner to use Philco designated repair shops. Like Apple Computer and the Macintosh,.

    Wanting to go to the kitchen but there is a kitten asleep on my foot, so must do so quietly not to wake her up.

    Sitting at home listening to the Grand Ole Opry over the AM radio, cats are happy with their bellies full, last day of November and tomorrow is the beginning of Advent so we're on the lead up to Christmas. Not a bad thing, the holiday season.

    Lying in bed right now surrounded by my "family" of pet alley cats, both of them purring loudly. Nice evening.

    Woke up this morning, wondered why my pillow was unusually warm, then touched it and it moved. Turns out a cat had gotten up on the bed and decided to watch until I woke up to feed her. Cats make weird but fun pets.

    @MildredHubble I.O.U. some cat photos. My big Manx tabby is doing just fine and the little kitty I caught the other week is not so little anymore, she's growing and growing. I think she is a plain domestic tabby, not the super sharp "mackerel tabby" but a regular old cat. However, she may have long hair, as she's suspiciously fluffy for a kitten.

    New kitten Margot is very soft and fluffy-looking, not the classic domestic shorthair look really. I don't know if that is a juvenile coat thing or if she's going to be a long-haired cat. Meanwhile big Manx cat Florence keeps a short, wiry double coat, like a wildcat. Not a drop of Cymric in her, I bet you. (Cymric Manx is the fluffy one.) Both cats are nice but Margot is very self centered.

    They both sound beautiful 😻 It would be great to see some more pictures! Margot sounds like she's going to be long haired, she will probably be very fluffy by the sounds of it when she is fully grown. She will probably need a bit of a brush every now and then to help her maintain her coat :-)

    My keys didn't work when I got home from today's job. Thankfully I keep oil and tools on the porch so I broke into my own apartment using the key as a jimmy for the broken deadbolt. Well that's dumb.

    I'm trying to figure out how you did that. I'm kinda drawing a blank. But it kinda reminds me of when I got locked in a utility room at the back of a house. The only window was screwed shut. I searched around and the only thing I could find was an old spoon. I broke the handle off and used it as a screwdriver and escaped through the window 😸

    Tempted to give up driving altogether, or at least retain my license and dispose of the car. A car costs an awful lot of money to keep in one piece.

    Overhauling my ancient bicycle again. If I could get a job in town I'd get rid of my car and do this. Driving is expensive and terrifying.

    Driving is terrifying, and I haven't even come close to learning how to do it. (I'm also visually impaired.) I've tried unsuccessfully to learn riding a bike.

    I caught another cat. My cat doesn't like him yet but he's a baby and she's already grown big. Cute lil tabbies both of them-- I am having him neutered soon and if they get along, he MAYBE can stay.

    Flo is a full size Manx and very very much a solipsist. She would prefer to be the only cat. She looks out of the window all day, thinking and observing, and is cuddly when I come home from work but otherwise disappears on cat business.

    We can see what happens but either way I need to work on bonding time with Flo as she probably feels very upset.

    This was mostly a way to take that tomcat out of circulation, as the last thing we need outside is More Cats. Soon as I can get him to a vet, adios, cat nuts!

    Still bad at paperwork but mail call today had a letter from a friend and my voter registration card, so I must be doing alright. Time to fire up the old typewriter and answer the letter he sent.

    I love my cat. She's chilling out on the bed right now purring and being friendly. Not sure why more people don't have them? They make for rather interesting and quiet pets.

    Pulling an all nighter cleaning up and trying to take care of myself. I neglect myself to probably a criminal level. CHANGING that is a DIY proposition as no one comes to fix a problem that's in one's own hands.

    I live in the South and a lot of people are pretty worried about something lately. Today on the road I almost got sideswiped in the car by a young fellow who was literally driving with his mom in the passengers seat, but seemed very upset or worried (perhaps because I was not moving over the speed limit? Cry about it, twit, the car is old.) Folks aren't doing well here y'all!

    I have been carrying a Sanrenmu 710 knife, the generic version of the Spyderco Tenacious, since 2011. I bought it due to increased crime during the Great Recession.

    Another example is John McCormack, Irish tenor, whose records are still considered quite good today. Or Chauncey Olcott who wrote "My Wild Irish Rose" (I have the 1913 Columbia recording Olcott made) and it's got that same basic style, but each singer (especially tenors!) put a special touch on it.

    Baritone singers were able to just pretty much do the same stuff they always did but tenors had to adapt to the phonograph. Sopranos had a very rough time of it which is why female singers are sadly underrepresented on disc and cylinder.

    Dalhart is pretty good for an introduction to early country music. Ives isn't bad (I have one of him singing "The Foggy Dew") but "The Prisoner's Song" is a Dalhart vehicle.
