  • Thinking I might try my hand at writing a bit after all. Today marks the 3rd time I've been approached by a game review outlet to write for them, and almost my entire friends list on Steam is people who sought me out after reading some review or whatever I wrote (I dont talk about it much, but I do write game reviews often). Writing stories though, that sounds a lot harder. I've never done that.

Use the Save the Cat framework. (Editors will be looking for that anyway.)
So, I came out to my closest friend today (via texting, I dont think I could have done it in person without passing out). Went well. Had a colossal panic attack immediately after. But for once I managed to get through that without clawing my arm apart again. That's progress, I think. Probably.

Definite progress. You did something really stressful and you didn't hurt yourself. I don't think you could have done that a year ago. I hope the next time you see this friend you feel a great sense of satisfaction and relief. ⭐ 🌈 ⭐
Ya know what I'm tired of... having to deal with too many accounts. Decided to dive into The Sims (to hold me over till Inzoi comes out), but whaddya know, gotta download EA's terrible app and log in just to play that specific thing (I bought it long before it hit Steam). Of course the app doesnt work quite right, and oh boy, gotta change the password again. Bah.

Oh yeah. Good point. At times it can be overwhelming. So many accounts, passwords and different protocols. Not at all like the early days of being online.

I used to HATE that "Origin" app that always came on in logging onto EA's "The Sims 3". Got so once I was into the game itself, I turned off Origin altogether. No telling what that app was harvesting.

think thats why retro is having a big boom right now. Too much signing in, remembering passwords, 2 factoring, being connected to internet 24/7, customer manipulation, pay to win, incomplete releases the list goes on..

ive got an xbox one that brother lent me just sitting there. I just cant be bothered.

Yep. I already have steam and they still ask me to make a separate account. And on top of it if I have an old account I can't find a way to validate my game on steam because the keys are different for some steam games than for buying the game separately. Grrr
Decided to check out a new board/card game shop that opened nearby. Drove through chaos, went in, and... Warhammer. It's almost all Warhammer and for some reason those ugly funko things (which are literally 1/3rd of the store). I remember, now, why I just get my hobby stuff from Amazon. At least I dont have reason to drive through that mess again.
Decided to try some digital drawing on the iPad again. Lasted about 15 minutes before I launched it at the floor again. I might have to just accept that the only form of digital art I can make (without getting an increasingly intense urge to murder something) is fractals and similar weird constructs.

My recent art haul. A giant pile of charcoal-related tools that came in the most recent mystery box, and then some of the calligraphy tools that I bought seperately. Also wow my arm hurts and I smell like dish soap
I always forget just how much I loathe the 4th of July until it actually gets here and the idiocy begins

What I've got so far (minus the various cleaning tools). The weird looking metal one is the simpler of the two and easier to clean and very quick to refill. The other one is much more complicated. Also, ink bottles. Deep purple in the middle, and then shimmering blue & green on the sides.

I haven't used one since I was a kid, I used to love them. When I was still in primary school we used to have to write in cursive and a fountain pen was perfect for that. We were taught to use a dipping pen before we were allowed to use biros back then.
Turns out, cleaning a fountain pen properly makes a ridiculous mess. So much purple. Everywhere. Mostly on me. The simpler one is now cleaned and refilled, the other one is less simple and needs to be totally disassembled, might need the syringe + cleaning solution since it's filled with shiny ink instead of normal ink.

This took 15 minutes to render and the machine just about exploded in the process. This is one of the more complicated ones I've done.

I just can't do digital art. On paper I'm pretty good, but digitally, it just doesn't work.

Yeah, same here. There's no texture or resistance to the surface and nothing tactile about it... every line or whatever I make ends up either wobbly, or I have to argue with the "auto straighten/curve" function that never actually works right. Not to mention the tendency for these apps to hide 95% of their bloody UI. I hate that, so much.

Though in this case a big part of it is that it's an Apple device, and I *really* dont get along with those things well. Every single "feature" it has irritates me. It's only actually used as a noise maker for when I'm trying to sleep. Never should have bought it.
Bad habit: Leaning forward too much while either at the PC here, or at my art or hobby tables. Whyyyyy must it be so tough to break old bad habits. Gah, I suddenly realize I'm doing it even as I freaking type this...

I have this habit too. I start off well but once I get in "the zone" concentration wise I seem to lean too much. I'm wondering if I should get one of those posture correcting chairs where you kinda kneel if that makes sense? I will see if I can find a picture... :)

I had one years ago but I kept putting my feet on the bit where your knees are supposed to go, so I dunno, maybe it won't help much?
As I go further with art, I realize more and more how much I loathe drawing anything digitally. 20 minutes of arguing with that godforsaken iPad and, well, I can say I dont remember the last time I got that angry at something. I mean I hate that device at the best of times, but that was a new level of rage. I dont know why I keep trying it.

I have never wasted my time trying to use an Android tablet or iPad to draw something digitally. I usually use a computer and my old Wacom. I might upgrade that drawing tablet sooner or later, but for being nearly 15 years old, it still works okay.

I did try a Wacom tablet once, but... yeah it didnt work out either. The disconnect of the pen being on the tablet but the results happening on my PC screen just throws me off too much. Not to mention that I seriously need my slanted art desk to draw anything at all (because of my arm).
2nd unexpected time sleeping at a hotel in a row. Deck renovations, sooooo much louder than I'd expected. At least the hotel is really close to here and in a familiar area. Doing it again tomorrow. First time I'd been in a hotel in 3 years, too.
