Run inside? Run outside? Runner's High?

I like running. Try to get a couple of 5-7km runs in each week as part of my overall health plan till I die. Good amount of hills around here so you don’t have to run as far for the same benefit. Sometimes I’ll run up a hill, walk back to the bottom and run up again until my lungs hurt and then...

    Hiking!

Mt. Ngungun (pronounced gun-gun by locals but technically pronounced noo-noo) is my youngest’s favourite hike because it isn’t scary like Mt. Beerwah and there’s a plateau at the top that has some lovely views.

    Hiking!

The Glass House Mountains are less than an hours drive from where I live. I’ve been hiking them since I was a child. I’ve climbed all of them except Crookneck as it’s off limits. Mt. Beerwah is the tallest at over half a kilometre high. It’s mostly scrambling as it’s steep and rocky most of the...

    All things paddling.

I love kayaking. We live opposite a lake and then there’s another lake 2km away and then there’s Moreton Bay about 15km away. A short drive north there’s Pumicestine Passage. A little further you’ve got the Noosa Everglades, and further north from there is the Great Sandy Strait and Harvey Bay...

    Hiking!

I’ve got way more hiking gear than is probably reasonable for one person. I try to get in one two local hikes each month and one or two good trips a year. I went to the snow for the first time in my life a few years ago. It has been my favourite hike so far. It was unique in the fact that it...

    What do you collect?

I have a ridiculous collection of flashlights. From used to very expensive. I don’t know how many exactly. It would probably measure in the hundreds if I got them all together (including headlamps and keychain flashlights). I have several flashlights that cost hundreds of dollars each. I don’t...

Would Like Advice regarding Eye Contact

I have a triangle of chin, cheekbone and cheekbone. I look in this area most often when talking with people. It actually helps to see what people are saying as well as hearing them. I’ve never been able to look someone in the eye without it being both physically and emotionally uncomfortable. I...

    Anyone here protestant ?

I was raised in a strict Protestant home. Left religion when I was 14. Jesus knocked on the door when I was an adult. I try to follow Him. I despise religion in all its forms.

Is 116 a high score on the RITVO test?

I had a psychologist recommend I get tested after she spoke with me for about 10 minutes. Funnily some good friends I’ve had for years assumed I was autistic for years but didn’t say anything to me. Did the RAADS-R test and took the results back to the psychologist and she was like “Yep, that’s...

    Busted…

Musicians ear plugs let softer sounds through, but cut out harsh, loud sounds. With them in I can hear me rubbing my fingers together, and I can also clap loudly right next to my ear and it is softened by around 24db.

How do you cope with sensory overload?

I usually just walk away from it. I’ve learned to never commit myself to a situation that I know will be overwhelming.

    Help me

One word answers are sufficient. This is something NT’s need to understand that a one word answer to a complex question is perfectly alright. Conversely, an answer that takes longer than usual is also perfectly alright. If I can’t explain why my answer is what it is, then I may as well not give...

    Busted…

Yesterday I was sitting around chatting with a few friends after church when one of their daughters said “eew, what’s that in your ear?” For a while now I’ve worn musicians ear plugs to block out sudden, sharp and loud sounds as I find them to be physically disturbing. These are sounds that...

How much are you affected by changes in your schedule?

It depends on the situation, but my response to unexpected change can range from annoyance to rage. If it’s work related and something forces me to be more than 15-20 minutes late for a booking, I will cancel it and rebook the job to another day. I can’t work out of sync with my schedule. I’d...

    eye contact

No one has mentioned it. I tend to move my eyes about a lot when I’m talking. I’ll look out in the distance, back at their face. Mostly stare at their mouth as it helps me process what they’re saying.

    Are Aspergarians unloveable?

I’ve been married for coming up 22 years. I have three children mid/late teens. I am very loved. So much it often makes me uncomfortable. My children like to be around me and do things with me. I guess being autistic means I’m not your average dad. I’m certainly lacking in many areas, but I...

    eye contact

Can’t do eye contact. It physically hurts. I usually look at people’s mouths and nose area. If I’m close, I’ll look at the bridge of their nose. Looking into the pupil seems unnecessary and verges on unnatural.
