Definition Of Depression

Would this include depression due to anger directed internally?

If the anger were related to ones environment, then yes. Exogenous depression is generally thought of as arising from 'without' or externally, whilst endogenous depression is depression from within, or what might be considered organic or biological depression in today's terms.

Depression doesn't always have to be related to an external event, or be related to solely biological mechanisms, it can be a mixture of both factors or it can be related to negative thought patterns, in which case something like cognitive behavioural therapy might be of use to some people in managing their own mindset.

Many think that.
Freud talked about this construct, and it seems to be applicable even today.

5 Symptoms of Repressed Anger
I don't really have repressed anger. In fact none of my emotions are repressed lol. But I do have things I feel angry about, like being the only one in the family with ASD and having such a traumatic time with the diagnosis as a child that I could have done without and being rejected and emotionally hurt by my peers. I can't stop feeling angry about all that.
Before I went on Sertraline, 9 times out of 10 depression was what caused me to have a meltdown (or in my case, outbursts). It was a huge trigger. RSD and FOMO are also basically depression - in my case anyway (not speaking for everyone), and would be a huge trigger to a meltdown. And when you have ASD, you can't really afford to have RSD and FOMO on top of it because being rejected and missing out are usually a result of ASD. It's a bit like living in a cottage while living with a fear of cottages.

That's another contribution as to why I have such negative feelings about having ASD. It's an unpleasant predicament.

I don't recall getting depressed except when there is a specific known cause due to a big disappointment or something bad happening so I probably don't have the cyclothymia that I had wondered about. I still don't know why I have the euphoric hypomania like times though except it seems to be connected to getting to engage in or talk about my special interests and also in response to receiving external validation about some skill or such. Maybe it's just one of my ASD and/or ADHD symptoms.🤔 Is it really a negative thing?
