Feeling sorry for myself

I have an old whiplash injury. Who knows which vertebra it is but I can feel a bulge mid neck. I've had the injury for 42 years. I had it xrayed when I was in my mid 20s. There was calcification of the vertebra then but, for the most part, I have just had a stiff neck every now again.

But this summer I injured my shoulder and now I have pinched nerve that keeps me from sleeping more than 2 hours at a time. I've been doing so exercises to relieve the nerve and that does help. But once I lay down, even with the best bed posture, pillow and mattress I can get, I still get nasty pain.

I look exhausted. Oh, I feel that way too. But my face...I look like my face is sliding into my socks. Dark circles under my eyes too. I am not really vain but I look for older than my age.

I would love to look younger. I have to admit, I can be very vain.

See a doctor about that.

Doctors can't do anything for a pinched nerve but exercises and medication I won't take. I do exercises though.

Pinched nerve in shoulder: Symptoms and treatment

If you won't take medications, then there are a lot of things a doctor "can't do." Medicine is central to the practice of medicine.

Personally, I am a worshiper of corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation. Get them in my knees every 6 months. I don't do most oral anti-inflammatory drugs because they are rough on my stomach. Meloxicam after a meal does not seem to bother me, so that's how I roll. If it gets seriously debilitating, surgery is an option.

At my age my body doesn't repair itself very well. It needs all the help it can get.

I know what you mean @Suzette, but I have to say it may be worth cautiously reviewing Yr medication ban. I have a high pain threshold and have rarely been unwell in any way, so I am similar, and rarely take anything. But with this operation I have had to try to find a middle way, and hear what I may not know. Mostly I have used very little of the pain medication prescribed for me because mostly, I have not been in pain.

But if one is in pain, it can actually slow your recovery not to explore medication for pain and options for physio and other help. Not everything is solvable by our sturdy resilience. My body needed immediate help via removal of potentially nasty stuff that was growing in it, and they did a great job.

Could you explore your options by visiting a doctor? I do recommend it. They may say things you don't currently know to factor in, like further deterioration could lead to this or that issue, and how to prevent it. You may need a support collar.

Sorry to be a pain, but I had a cyst they found through investigation and early enough to operate with good chance of positive results. I didn't know what I didn't know, and my avoid the doctor policy wore out it's usefulness.

Ps with respect, I am not keen on the idea that you are somehow 'feeling sorry for yourself', you have a painful and stressful condition. Sounds like you are being too brave, to me.

Take care of yourself. Sorry that you’re in pain. I think that you’re very brave to handle this.

T.e.n.s machine get conductive gel as the pads that help convey the nerve stimulation wear out its orthodox drug free works quickly!

I went about 3 weeks with 0-2 hours of sleep a night. It is a horrible experience, and I would not wish that on anyone. I am so sorry you are going through that due to severe pain.

Im assuming there’s a reason you don’t want to take pain meds, and I completely understand that. I also understand not trusting doctors. I really hope you find a solution to this problem :( maybe it is time to pay a visit to a hospital… only if you’re comfortable with it, though.

Again, I am so sorry you are going through this. There’s gotta be something out there for you.

PS
My mom uses CBD oil to help with her pain. She claims it works pretty well.

Perhaps discuss options including physical therapy with your physician. Last year I developed fatigue in my right arm and it was suggested that I have a Thoracic Outlet issue of my pecs compressing the nerve. Stretching seems to be working, though slowly. I hope that you find effective relief. You must be feeling stressed.

Finally , acupuncture. I took my daughter in for jaw pain. She said it didn't work. But after a couple of sessions, she stopped complaining and didn't tie it to the sessions. So it was a slow process but saved us the dentist.

Dual Channel TENS Machine TD3 | Kinetik Wellbeing this is what I bought it would be about 55 US dollars you can get cheaper ones but they don't have as many massage options tens is based on massage techniques when you buy the conductive gel make sure it's a 4 TENS machines as there are ones for ultrasound which are different
I didn't see this recommendation. But I bought bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086JYNHNY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am not sure if the link will be handled right. My appologies if it gets ugly :)

I’m also sorry you’re in pain, Suzette :(
There’s not much I can do medically, obviously, but I’m here if you need some cheering up :)

And also, I don’t look my age either, I look about 10 years younger. Which comes with its own challenges
