Help needed please, weird smell

No water in those things.
thanks though, can still smell it, it is only faint, but definitely there.

Could it be the drain itself? There's always water in drains, and you may have suddenly developed a sensitivity to that odor, or it got a bit more rank than usual due to environmental conditions, a change in the soap you use or cleaning chemicals etc.

Nah! I am mad. Would have been burnt as a witch years ago.
Join my coven I spent about two years as a member here thinking there was a section here about cats in French for the first few months it was the CHAT section then it was the cat section.

@Gift2humanity

Has the odor changed since you first noticed it?
Gotten stronger? Fading? Different scent?

Have you been able to contact maintenance, to see
if somebody could come by to check it out for you?

@Gift2humanity

Is there no maintenance crew/person for your building?

What is the hesitation about calling for someone to check out the situation?
Embarrassment? Financial burden? Fear of the unknown?

If the smell is bothering you, another person may be able to fix it.
But you'd have to let someone know.
Not just try to get people on the internet to guess at it.

I rang today.
They cannot check for dead animals but let me poke my head in the loft to see if I could smell a stronger animal smell.
It's not safe for me to go right in the loft as its only plasterboard floor.
They said I could have a look around but I told them it was unsafe so I said I would lift the hatch a little and sniff, couldn't smell a stronger animal smell but loft is large and ventilated.

I've never experienced dry rot ,wet timber doesnt smell like a dead animal! but you originally said stale water.
Yikes "Dry Rot" I remember buying my first house in 1991 and being paranoid about that.
Yes, stale water, a bit like the dead bird in my parents water tank.
Does Dry rot smell like stale water?

"Damp, Musty Smell

"DRY ROT HAS A SMELL - does this confirm that it is the true Dry Rot fungus?
Summary: No - although Dry Rot has a damp, earthy, rotting soil smell, so do the Wet Rots in the right conditions." Dry Rot smells - but does the smell tell you that you definetly have Dry Rot?

This is definitely not a wood rot smell, it smells like the bird that rotted and died in my parents tank, but it is not as strong.
I would have expected the loft to smell stronger, however the loft is ventilated and the wind was blowing so it's not possible to judge.

@Gift2humanity

And the reason no one has come to inspect this situation?

Why is that?

If this torments you, causes you anxiety, and you don't own the building,
who is responsible for upkeep?
