Hi All

Firs time on a forum. I'm Si. I had a lifetime of misdiagnosis and was only correctly diagnosed with Autism at the age of 54 two years ago. I do have some co morbid conditions too though. Like others my Autism diagnosis was a 'lightbulb' moment for me & although my life hasn't got any easier int he past 2 years there is now more understanding of myself. I'm here to learn more & If I can summon up enough of whatever you call it, engage with others.

Thank you Outdated. It's good to know that times have changed & Children are getting more understanding & support than we ever did. Although probably still not enough.

Welcome, @Simon68

Misdiagnoses and just outright falling through the cracks, are fairly common. I and many others can relate. It is frustrating. But also, in some ways, almost a blessing in disguise.

I am undiagnosed, myself. But I am finding that I don't need it, to know I am autistic.

But we all go our own paths.

In anycase. I hope you enjoy your time with us here. We all look forward to seeing you share your experiences. There are plenty here to read as well. Since each day is a learning experience.

Feel free to ask about anything you are not sure about. We are more than happy to help you out~

Thank you Xinyta 😊

Hi and welcome!

I was diagnosed at the same age as you. I'm 68 now.
It was an "aha" moment which probably would never have happened if I hadn't had a knowledgeable grief counselor after the death of my mother.

Found this forum immediately after and check in most every day.
It is a great place to read and ask questions. So many different topics. :)

This forum is very helpful as every member has value, and helps me with missing puzzle pieces of my fragmented life history. Some of us walk around feeling on the outside looking in, some feel quite alienated, and others just see life as a giant puzzle and to fit in some how. Maybe you will feel comfortable sharing your insights.

Welcome, @Simon68 ! I hope you find this forum as welcoming and helpful as I have.

Your experience is very similar to mine - diagnosed at 47 and it explained sooo much.

Thank you so much. It really does doesn't it. A lifetime of being misunderstood & struggle & then 💡💡
The problems don't go away but It gives us some understanding as to why life has been how It has.
