I wish death upon a single spider.

We have the Huntsman here in Florida too.
They are smart and sneaky.
I've caught them trying to crawl into the garage when the door opens at night.

And one night, I was outside by the pool, which is enclosed in a screened area, so usually not many insects inside.
But that night as I opened the door to come into the house, I looked down and one of those Huntsman was creeping in with me.
Close to my right foot and hiding, so he thought, under the edge of the long house dress I had on.

How smart is that? 🕷️

Brown Recluse used to be plentiful in Florida. They originated to here in the USA from importation from Asia.
Then for unknown reasons they migrated north and are uncommon now in Florida.
They were everywhere in Missouri around 1980 when I moved from there to Florida.
A lot of people were being bitten. Some had to have toes amputated from them getting onto their feet when mowing the lawn.
 
I don't think I'd wish death upon any animal or insect that hurts me, as it's just in their nature and they don't know any better.

I had a pet rat that bit me often, my God was it painful, but I wouldn't wish death upon him. I think he had behavioural problems, poor little guy.

We have another common spider here that does that too, the White Tail Spider. That necrosis of the flesh to me seems very similar to a tropical ulcer, fortunately I've never had either. It's not their actual venom that does this, it's the bacteria on their fangs. If I see White Tail in the house it's dead, where as with Huntsmans I'll happily pick them up and put them back outside.

I'm the opposite.
However, poisonous spiders, such as the red-back don't last long if they are around my K9 kids.

The most handsome spider, imo, is the Huntsman.

I even relocate ants, snails, worms, etc, but when it comes to the safety of my K9 kids, I take no prisoners. :cool:

There isn't much in the animal kingdom that bothers me. Except for spiders!
Just something about them that I don't want one on me.
They say it's usually spiders or snakes that people fear. Rats and mice third place.
I'm OK with snakes, rats and mice. Had a nice Boa for a pet as a teen.

Handsome spider? I'd say this one:

My main concern is the safety of my K9 kids.

For me, snakes are almost as frightening as human beings. 🤔

The fangs are a bit of a worry.
Looks sort of like a funnel-web, over here.

I saw a write up about that in the news a few weeks back but I also shared house with a bloke that was bitten and developed an ulcer from the bite. I figured it must be same sort of rubbish people on the east coast keep trying to tell us like "Koalas are becoming extinct" and "Only male magpies swoop at people".

Here we have problems with koalas breeding to plague proportions and have to regularly carry out culls.

And magpies attack in pairs, both male and female. One will hover in front to distract you while the other hits you from behind. No matter which one you try to face it frees up the other for an attack.

Also note that the speaker in that video isn't Australian, that greatly lessens the chance that they know what they're talking about.

We used to have to make things like that as a plastics project in high school. One of our teachers started getting us to collect nice specimens of different insects and spiders too, which he paid us for. He was starting a little business on the side electroplating insects and selling them as jewelry.
 

Do white-tailed spiders cause necrotic ulcers?​

There is little evidence that bites from the white-tailed spider result in severe or necrotic ulceration. In a study of 130 patients with confirmed white-tailed spider bites, no cases of necrotic ulcers were observed (Isbister & Gray, 2003).

The notion that necrotic ulcers could be caused by bites of white-tailed spiders has been in the zeitgeist for decades. The belief stands that either the venom itself or bacteria in the venom of the spider result in a syndrome of blistering and ulceration or necrosis surrounding the bite site. While bacterial infections can certainly lead to necrotic injuries, no definitive link has been made between white-tailed spider bites and this condition.

Of the spiders here, the only ones poisonous to humans is the black widow. There are lots of them here- if you park a car for two weeks, you'll find 15+ taking up residence under your car.
Australia has an opposing spider, the redback. It's red with a black hourglass? Weird how that came to be.
But thankfully no recluses here. There have been a few people claiming otherwise, but it's probably MRSA instead.
We do have a very poisonous spider here, but it doesn't bother humans- the daddy longlegs, A ground dwelling spider. It's fangs are way too short to puncture through our skin, plus they're not interested.......
