Out of balance gut and the link to a thousand other things...

Water at a certain temperature makes me puke. Like, literally. It's a temperature near room temp, but not quite, so I won't be able to tell until it's in my mouth. Never knew why. I guess water and IBS aren't friends with each other...
Slightly warmer than room temperature, just colder than lukewarm. It just tastes weird as well. I drink either cold water or hot tea.

Couldn't agree more.
With the addition of hot water with honey & lemon, though.

As for the initial topic, @Chance, have you looked into foods that contain probiotics such as sauerkraut (the fresh type) and kimchi? I know, not good options if you don't like cabbage, but if you do, they might be worth considering.

@Chance, you might give almond milk a try- it's delicious either sweetened or unsweetened. I have colitis and what works best for me, aside from my medication, is a VERY strong probiotic- I use Renew Life Ultimate Flora 90 billion. The 90 billion is the important part. It needs refrigeration. Since antibiotics tend to kill off the good gut bacteria, probiotics help to restore the good bacteria. If you have alot of gut problems you could probably take them daily. I find that 3-4 days is all I need to take and save the rest until next time. BTW Amazon sells the probiotic. I looked up Prox 10 on Amazon and it's only 50 billion.

I thought I liked Almond Milk.
I was using it.
But it made me feel a little bad,
and it was so thin and unsatisfying.

Cashew milk is good on cereal though.
I like it.
It seems richer, thicker.

I use unsweetened.
I don't use sugar.

40? 0________0
Is this a response to the post I deleted because I noticed that Bolletje had already mentioned the capsules (in which I mentioned you take like 40 capsules)? If so, my response to your response is this:

Yeah, it's from this article, where it specifcially says:

The 57 patients in the capsule group took an average of 40 pills over the course of 30 to 60 minutes at an out-patient clinic.

Which really means that you might take less, might take more.....I just remembered the number 40, not that it was the average.

Pretty obviously, yes it is.

That sounds horrid.
Taking that many in such a short span of time.

I have so often been wrong, I make an automatic attempt to allow for unlikely possibilities I cannot see. But I laughed at myself when I read, "Pretty obviously, yes" .... I am still laughing.

I agree, I would not like to swallow 40 capsules in an hours....but I would find it way more pleasant than the alternative.

Never tried cashew milk but sounds good. I had been drinking 2% regular cow milk and never liked cow milk much. Use the almond milk for health drinks with greens and fruit and it helped a lot to make the drink more palatable.

@Chance have you ever tried water kefir or coconut milk kefir (which I gather is basically the same bacteria and yeasts as milk kefir, just grown in coconut milk instead of dairy)?

Or nut cheeses or non-dairy yogurt? (I have had some coconut yogurt I liked.)

I have seen nut cheese (cashew) and non-dairy yogurt at the store -- never non-dairy kefir, but if you're into making it you can buy the kefir grains from places like this one (never bought anything from them, don't know how good they are) or maybe from a health food store in your area?

Sometimes I will wake up just really thirsty and grab a bottle of room temp water and down it... And just like you sometimes it wants to come right back up... then for about an hour I’m all nauseous and not sure if it will stay down or what... Other times no problem... If it did this all the time or more than half the time I guess I would just not do it. However I know I need water and I guess I get too thirsty maybe before I drink it. Not sure.

I do drink Blue diamond Almond milk... The Chocolate is delicious, the vanilla just needs to be thinner... its a texture thing I guess... It’s good, but not good at the same time...

Thank you for the renew Life... If it works for you, or wha ever seems to work for others I am willing to buy... Thats what I posted this for. I dislike just guessing and it being an expensive joke. Thanks again : )

Hope you do try it- it works great for me. You can get it from Amazon I think.

I’m glad you reposted it... I was totally confused and that was a good (but still unthinkably gross) article. To ever think I would have to eat poop pills... oh geez. I think I am in far better health than these people who have had to do that...

I think I will try lots of probiotics and not think about them being live “bugs” as I swallow them. Yummy... sourcastic yummy that is... : )

Cold-ish water is easier to keep down.

@Chance Try Bifa-15, from Eden Company. It is a probiotic supplement. Tasty little tiny 2.4 mm coated capsules (light citrus) that you swallow and are carried past the stomach to the gut.
They aren't cheap. But after all those anti-biotics you said you've put into your system, the Bifa-15 will re-populate your gut with the 'good guys.'

My stomach is often my worst nightmare... Its been this way most of my life. I have been in one of my quiet moods just digging and researching for a few days on the link between our gut, our brain, and our nervous sytem. The chemicals and electrical impulses we put out 24/7 and how if they are damaged, polluted, or out of balance the nightmare health situations they can bring forth.

I have been on antibiotics a lot in my life, and that alone seems to be many researchers smoking bullet to bad gut health.

I found a bunch of companies of course promoting they know best. Some are a joke and its easy to figure them out, but others seem to be trying to be truthful in what they promise.

IN NO WAY am I promoting anyone, because I have never used it... Thats the whole point of my post.

Has anyone ever tried PROX 10 probiotics??? They have good ratings and they kind of give out some hope with a guarantee... But words are cheap and this stuff is not.

If anyone has ever used this, OR has a good plan to help me try and balance my gut to see if this would help me feel better I would be more than glad to listen...

I drink Kiefer... (gagging) every morning but I want to puke I hate it so bad, but I was told it would help... Only to find out I would have to drink like 6 quarts a day to even make a dent... No way... There has to be something better... please say there is. Its just wrong to drink that stuff. I'm not big on dairy stuff as it is. A few cheeses in small doses, thats about it. It seems to make me sick, not fix me.

Milk does make me sick... Not the lactose but the Casin in it... I cant digest apparently.

Anyway if you have any good plans throw them out there. Maybe they will help someone else also.
spirulina comes in tablets its vegan balances your digestive tract

Main thing with pro-biotics are to look for the types that contain many millions of the bacteria, 90 million is a good amount, refrigerated, and some that are formulated to make it past the stomach acids into the gut where you need them.
Yogurts and Kiefer won't get there. Stomach acids destroy them before they can do their thing.

I don't care much for dairy products either.
Not even the nut milks. I do like Rice milk.

There is a reverse way of creating good gut bacteria by destroying the bad and keeping things in balance.
I have found Inulin (derivative from chicory) to be helpful.
It has no taste and dissolves instantly in a hot beverage.
It has anti-inflamatory effects.
Anything that reduces inflammation naturally helps the whole body.
These include things like tumeric in capsules, all EFAs
from either good quality fish oil (my preference is SuperiOmega because it has no reflux after taste) or flaxseed oil capsules.
Bromelain and or Betaine, ( enzymes from pineapple and beets), kyolic garlic caps, spirulina, and Co-Q10.
I wouldn't rush into taking them all at once.
Try one of them, see if there is improvment then add another.
Of course I have to add the ask your doctor or pharmacist first thing as the pharmaceutical law so no one can say I'm subscribing.

I also find the herbal teas Yogi brand- Egyptian Licorice and Ginger helpful.

Bottom line: Probiotic caps that are designed to get past the stomach and anti-inflammatory supplements.

Why are you taking so many antibiotics? I mean, there are legitimate reasons to take them, but I'm curious why for "basically your whole life"... do you have an immune deficiency or something?
