There was some below freezing weather in Texas and the Carolinas and a previously unknown coping behavior was used by alligators. They stuck their snout out of the water to preserve access to air and then let the water around them freeze solid. When the water melts, gators go on with their lives normally.

That amazes me. Our crocodiles get sick and die if the water temperature drops below 26 degrees.
 
And then there is the annual falling iguanas.

This is a real thing. When it gets near freezing, they freeze and fall out of trees. They can injure people when they fall. AFAIK there have been no fatalities among humans or iguanas. When it warms up, they wake up and resume their lives.
