Vista was majorly under-rated tbh.
I CBA getting into an OS flame war 'cause frankly I find them pathetic, but I just think people bashed it for the sake of it.
The only reason people thought it was so crap was because like 90% of MS' consumer market are idiots who don't know how to download new drivers or read hardware requirements when buying like £200 software.
If it weren't for MS going so crazy on the hardware specs we'd all still be on single core machines. Apple was probably pissed they had to get up to standards with other OEMs 'cause their hardware looked pathetic compared to other OEMs 'cause their OS didn't need that much.
But yeah.
IDK why I'm commenting when I CBA arguing/debating/flaming over it.

Well yeah, Vista is good (now) but at the launch it was a real disaster - so many problems. Apparently Windows 7 takes up less RAM and manages resources much better than Vista.

I suppose the golden rule is: Never buy an OS on release. Wait a year until it's patched/fixed.

Agreed tbh.
Though I can't talk since I used the Windows 7 RC and got Mac OS X 10.6 a week or so after release.

I run OS X 10.6.2 on my MacBook and have a hush-hush-don't-ask-don't-tell copy of Windows 7 I borrowed from a guy at school ;)

Yeah, buying an OS on release is probably a bad idea. I got XP more or less on release and it sucked not having any of my games compatible with it. Hardware is usually okay though.

Vista was a nightmare for me at first too, since the majority of my studio gear wasn't compatible with it and the companies took their sweet old time releasing drivers to fit vista's needs. Windows 7 is a lot better on the whole, though.

Buying an OS on release to use on your main computer is a bad idea, IMO. I didn't even buy Snow Leopard until 10.6.2.

It wasn't the problem for me. I just hated the look of Vista. It makes me feel so nice loading up Windows 7 and looking at the sheer beauty of its design.

As for being faster...it performs exactly the same in benchmark tests and Vista, but just looks as though it's working faster (read about it in PC Pro somewhere, something to do with Display Management). Though just looking as though it's going faster is good enough for me.

Windows 7: Love it love it love it!

I doubt very much they'll call the next instalment of Windows Windows 8 tbh.
The only reason it's called Windows 7 was because it was supposed to be the 7th version of the NT kernal, but apparently it's still using 6.1(what Vista uses).
So Windows 8 wouldn't make any sense.
Not that Windows 7 does, but it did when they planned on using that kernal.
IDK how reliable the source I got this info from is btw :P.

I can see why Vista is a ***** for programmers, my dad being one, but as a layman I have to say I got a Vista computer on release (no choice in the matter) and have had zero problems with the OS. The computer itself, OTH, is a POS.

What do you use your computer for? A majority of the problems came with gamers and certain application compatibility at first and especially hardware - well for me, anyway. If you were just using it for the internet and/or word processing, I see no reason why you should notice any problems. :P

Here is a picture of my desktop with the background i made in the paint program.
