Riddles

Okay then. I give up on this riddle. Where's the answer?
The answer is no to the question in the riddle, so you sort of win. :) It is a different version I created of the Harvard riddle, where 85% of those intellectual persons there got it wrong, but where children answered it mostly correctly.

Who is it, when he falls, he does not cry out, but lays silent and still until another arises and stands in his place, commanding him to leave?
 
I resemble a certain instrument and function similarly too.
Without me, some living thing without it's dinner would do.
