Songs from Childhood

Now it gets embarrassing.

I remember hearing the "Sesame Street 2" album when I was little. We didn't own a copy at the time (although I had some other Sesame Street albums) until it was reissued when I was 4 or 5. Back then I heard it at friends' places and at nursery school. Probably like most children I found the music enticing, and there were a few songs I particularly liked on it, even back then.

This song's about an extremely simple topic, but the music's quite catchy.

This song keeps saying, "And then you hear this sound," before the buzzer goes off. Doesn't that give it away?

This one grew on me after I owned the album.

The announcer's voice at the beginning of this one scared me at first. But I was later able to tolerate it. So those with sensory issues may want to keep the volume low for this one.

I watched The Electric Company when I was little, even though I was too young for it - and that probably was a mistake, because parts of it scared me. There were some parts I found enjoyable back then, too. But eventually I decided I didn't want to watch anymore because of the scary parts. However, later when I was in grade school I resumed watching reruns of the show and ended up enjoying it. Either way, I did like some of the songs on the show from the beginning, and found I still did when I got older.

You might recognize some of the cast members here.

This one was my favorite. It might seem that I would have a negative reaction to it when I was little, but somehow I didn't. The song was extremely catchy, and I got a real kick out of it. (What child wouldn't?) Still, those with sensory issues may want to keep the volume low.

I had the ZOOM album when I was little, too (another show I was too young for), and I liked it quite a bit.

My favorites as a kid:

"Sowing the Seeds of Love" - Tears for Fears
"The Logical Song" - Supertramp
"Eleanor Rigby" - The Beatles
"Get Off of My Cloud" - The Rolling Stones
"You Showed Me" - The Turtles

Continuing with the ZOOM chat, my parents also got me the "Playgrounds" album recorded by the cast of the show. I liked it, too, but I preferred the other album. This has my favorite version of "This Old Man" at 9:15 (I was disappointed that it only went up to five).

Keep the volume low if you have sensory issues, because this album may be loud in some places, particularly at the beginning (I remember the first time we played it I covered my ears).
