It depends on what you want to go into.
If you’re more into coding than anything else, that’s actually web development rather than design. If you take that track, it might help to know the basics of design, but you don’t need to go in depth.
If you want to work with the front end of websites and logo/print design, then yes, basics like I mentioned are good. You’re going to likely run into all of it elsewhere the more you delve into learning.
