A mnemonic quoted by Stephen Jay Gould for remembering the names of (in order) Geological eras, periods, and epochs. This mnemonic is in the form of a poem reviewing a porno called Cheap Meat (don't worry; even though it's technically adult humor, it is still safe for work because it's seriously freakin dry)
Cheap Meat performs passably
Quenching the celibate's jejune thirst
Portraiture, presented massably
Drowning sorrow, oneness cursed.
Rare pornography, purchased meekly
O Erogeny, Paleobscene
That's Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic, precambrian
Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, Jurassic, Triassic
Permian, Pennsylvanian, Mississippian
Devonian, Silurian, Ordovician, Cambrian
Recent (aka Holocene), pleistocene, pliocene, miocene
Oligocene, Eocene, Paleocene
Obviously it's a bit out of date; it's the winner of a contest Gould held during the seventies, so things like the Vendian or the Hadean are missing. But it's still pretty good if you ask me.
