The last thing you bought?

A remote mounted control pendant cable for my Automation Direct GS2 phasing unit for my Logan lathe.

I'm tempted to ask what exactly that does, but I suspect the answer would be equally as mysterious, LOL. :p

Never worked on a lathe, either in wood or metal shop. My loss. A cool tool.

The pendant allows setting the operating parameters, speed and the rotational direction of an electrical induction motor thru a phasing inverter box.The cable allows me to mount the phasing box on the wall away from the swarf and control it from a safe place at the front of the machine without reaching over the rotating work. (read so I don't get tangled up in it and mangled reaching for it)

It takes my available incoming 60 Hz cycle 220 volt nominal split,or single phase alternating current and produces three phase industrial type current not available in a residence to supply a three phase motor. The three phase wave forms are approximations built out of grouped positive voltage spikes produced from rectifying the AC to DC and chopping off the voltage rise limits where they need to be to simulate the top and bottoms of the desired AC wave form.

Circuitry inside the phasing unit inverts the same signal to produce the negative side of the AC wave. The produced spiked DC signals are then joined and outputted as overlapping waves that simulate three phase AC.

As a result of using three phases,it allows for more control over a motor,an example being a programmable ramped acceleration curve and the ability to alter the AC wave cycles from 0-400Hz to allow precise speed control outside of the fixed 60Hz fixed value the power company sells.

Reverse can be called up with the push of one button on the membrane pendant and the speed can be controlled by twisting the knob on the pendant. That alone gives me much more speed control over the 12 fixed speeds originally available from the factory.

Using three phase instead of single phase allowed me to use a two horsepower motor in the same size package as the original 3/4 horse single phase motor which is necessary to fully utilize the cemented tungsten carbide insert tooling I got for Christmas. Carbide in an optimum cutting setting soaks up a lot of horsepower as they can cut deeper and wear longer when used at the optimized higher surface speeds and feed rates than high carbon tool steel cutting tools.

In a nutshell,my very rigid 1952 machine is fully upgraded to modern standards with the phasing unit and the digital linear measuring read out.

i have kodi on the laptop and i just cant be bothered hooking up the laptop to the tv constantly

Have you thought about having an Amazon Fire stick/box with kodi on? I have a fire stick with it on, and either plug it into our tv in the living room (just goes in an hdmi port) or it usually lives in our bedroom plugged into the small tv in there. Much easier than faffing about with connecting a laptop to the TV. (We used to do that, as we had a chromecast, but it didn't even last that long before it died)

last thing I bought was a cleaning swab for an oboe.

Because I randomly bought an oboe that was going for a good price a couple of weeks ago and then got worried about the build up of moisture inside from playing it might make the wood split so I bought a swab.

Today I bought a Soundmagic E-10 Isolating In-ear Earphones from Amazon (US$40), I hope they get here next week, the ones I was using broke yesterday and I need music while I'm traveling on bus.

Also, yesterday I bought a couple of books I needed for a college course, Electromagnetic theory by William Hayt (8th Ed.) and Elements of Electromagnetism by Mathew Sadiku (3rd Ed).

Yesterday I went swimming, so I bought a ticket to the Leisure Pool, and then for tea I bought a medium Ham and Pineapple Pizza from Pizza Hut, but the idiot driver left 10 minutes later than I'd ordered the Pizza for, so I rang up and complained because I'd ordered it for 17.30, and he didn't turn up till 17.55, OK I get the traffic's bad at tea time, but the Pizza Hut Takeaway on West St is 10 minutes away, if that, from me, anyway because I complained the Manager told me to tell the delivery bloke I could have free Pizza! Saved me £13.49!

my 4 year old niece and my sister are visiting my apartment tomorrow at 12pm and i am cooking them dinner with my support staff.
went to tescos tonight to buy some food for them- fish nuggets, chicken nuggets and triple cooked chips coated in beef dripping,a tin of spagetti hoops,i got some orange barley drink to, and some kinder eggs for the little one and her sister to [who is 5 and at school] and i got my sister a little mini bar of choc a blok chocolate, plus i got myself two cans of jamesons whiskey mixed with cola for tonight. :D

These sound like quite possibly the nicest thing ever

I can't eat chips since my gastric band :(
i can whole heartedly agree with you @xudo they are absolutely beautiful, theyre made by mcaine and are called 'gastro chips', so far ive found them for sale in a big tesco and a co op-so if you ever have anyone over for dinner, those are the places to visit. :D

i think your gastric band will be worth it in the end; ive had several support staff whove had that done and its changed their life eventually.
you will be able to eat chips again one day wont you?

Nope, I'll never be able to eat chips, unless I have the band completely aspirated (I have a port under the skin near my belly button which can be used to add saline or remove it from the band.) I'd only have it completely emptied if I needed like surgery or something like that. There's a few things I can't eat any more.

Oh yeah, it's been totally worth it. It's just over 3 years since I had it done, and I've lost 8 stone :D
