What are your current obsessions?

I bought myself a tablet and downloaded a few games, just to pass the time if I was bored...well...little bit obsessed. All I've done for the past week is play them constantly, last night I was up until 2am because I just had to do a few more things, 5 more minutes which turned into 30 minutes then an hour.

I've also started really enjoying (and it's starting to become obsessions) taking a song lyric, film or tv title and making it literal or into a riddle or something (not sure how to explain it) so for example the film "Child's play" I turned into "Offspring of homosapiens engaging in pleasurable activity" I've kept myself awake for hours at night thinking of them.

My last major obsession was writing a book series, I've handwritten the first two books (and typed up the first) and have several plots outlined for a further 4 books but I've lost the obsessive part and with my other little obsessions I just can't get back into it yet.

.

Also obsessed with my ipad thing. I cycle through all the apps now...I don't do many games (although I put three on there) but I go through the standard mail, facebook, etc...and also downloaded a bunch of news apps and reddit/stumble upon (the last two take up the bulk of my time it seems).

Obsessions; Queen, Guns n Roses, Def Leppard: This obsession wasn't simply listening to music constantly on repeat, which I did, but researching, learning everything I could. Literally. For example I know Axl Rose's favorite ice cream flavour is strawberry and Freddie Mercury enjoyed Trivial Persuit.

I've been obsessed with guitar, keyboard, music, drawing, reading, various historical topics, I LOVE history.

A current obsession is online roleplaying games.

Portable apps.

I find it awesome how you can stick portable versions of your favorite apps on a memory card and use your apps on any computer without losing any of your settings.

I want to get a good thumb drive and load it up with portable versions of all my favorite apps. Then if I go somewhere I can use someone else's computer without having to use the crappy apps that are installed on it.

Destruction.

Eh, one of my oddest ones yet. Not just, "Yeah! Lets go cut up some playground equipment!". More along the lines of the most efficient way to destroy. Minimal time and energy.

I've been working on making an odd combination of a diesel powered reciprocating saw combined with some striking tool as well. Spent $160 on it so far.

For me obsessions come and go. Well, I have a couple that I highly focus on. Here are some examples....

Classical Music (Always...)
Classical Guitar and improving on my playing
Amateur Radio, either building radios or working on my Morse code speed
Rollerskating
Reading (Subjects include, Philosophy, Classical Music books and Composer biographies, Aspie books (now)
Bicycling (Trek & Brompton)

I also focus on cleaning. My car looks like new as show room new inside and out. Vacuuming the hard wood floors or polishing and measuring where things are on my desk. My room has to look like a picture in House Beautiful.

Most of my obsessions are various games - card, board, game shows, and video games, but generally a maximum of two or three at a time. Games that drew me in include: backgammon, chess, contract bridge, Scrabble, Magic: The Gathering, Illuminati: New World Order, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Family Feud, The Price Is Right, Jeopardy!, Frogger, Dungeons & Dragons, Mastermind, Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble, Trog, Tetris, Violence Fight, John Elway's Quarterback, and curling. Right now, it's about The Game of Life (the board game, not the environmental simulation).

Razor blades.

These are my favorite blades ATM (and I'm damn glad that they work good for me because they're so bloody cheap; you can get 100 Astra Superior Platinum blades for just $10 which is about a year and a half's worth of blades for me):

astra-double-edge-razor-blades.jpg

As soon as I'm out of them I'm gonna order a hundred more.

Cars.

I lost my license about 9 months ago which sorta seemed to have an opposite "Clinging" affect on what was my passion, So It's all I seem to think, breathe and talk about.

I see similarities everywhere (In a meeting I always notice the cars driving around roundabouts) I remember all the cars on my road (some of there registrations) and I chose my favourites based on facts and figures..

Which REALLY back fires on me.. ALOT.

I've previously made decisions "on paper" and not been happy because in my brain it's good.. but in my heart it's not what I wanted.

Sports. Not watching pros fighting it out on TV, but actually DOING it.

I know it's a bit unusual for an Aspie to actually enjoy doing sports, but yeah. AS has its disadvantages (motor coordination), but practice more than makes up for it. And AS has it's own advantages to make up for it:

- Questioning approach (Why this method? Why that method? etc)
- Open mind towards new and esp unconventional ideas
- Logical approach to things
- Ability to absorb a lot of knowledge very fast if I want to

Generally, my approach was continuous practice + learning + finetuning, and it has worked well for me. My current targets:

- 15 muscle ups (Currently at 8) - 20 MUSCLE UPS, thanks for watching. - YouTube
- Maintain 50m underwater in 1 breath - Swimming under water - YouTube
- 50x Pistol squats on each leg (currently at 4) - [No Audio] Squat Progression - Step 10 - Pistol.avi - YouTube

Videos obviously not by me.

These might not be extreme, but these are definitely no joke for most people. I started off at a level well below an NT, so it only goes to show that if we Aspies set our minds to something and constantly finetune our approach, we can definitely do it well.

This 4 years of sport training has benefited me tremendously. I have learned a lot, not just about the technical aspect of sport (eg sport science) but also a lot about myself and people around me.

This might be too literal of a take on what are my current obsessions but;

Lately I am obsessed with thoughts of NT’s, we are obsessed with being normal, are they obsessed with being different? Maybe they envy us our uniqueness and innocence?

Here’s a scenario for you;
An aspie walks into a crowded room and after a half hour the hostess of the party comes over and says “I notice you are a little bit strange”
The aspie thinks on this and replies “I am not strange I am just different, I have Aspergers”.
The hostess then says “you’re the only one here with Aspergers that makes you strange”
The aspie notices a nose ring on the hostess and says “well I think you’re strange too, you have a nose ring”
The hostess then says “I am not strange, I got his nose ring to be different” and EVERYONE else says, “really… that’s why I got mine done too!”

Macarons. As soon as I get home, Im ordering cookbooks and figuring out how to make them. My new project.

Also getting more into computers lately, since ive decided thats what i want to study if i were to go back to school in fall.

Any changes to your Obsessions?

Funny, I can have interests by only one can seem to dominate. I can switch them, but I can't seem to keep them all going evenly. Do you understand?

For example:

Ham Radio
Reading Books (But it has to about a particular subject)
Classical Guitar

For example I can't balance the evening with all three. I am like 100% focused on anyone of them.

Of course I have what I call my little unique things, like:
Measuring stuff on my desk
Clean car (I mean really clean)
Routine

But these things only take moments to complete. Where I spend my focused energy besides work is usually one area. I can change it, but I have never have balance? Odd?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

My project and Victorian-era related stuff (mostly reading up on history, architecture and design from that era at the moment), Warhammer 40.000...

Oh wait... that's it already.

Somehow my project is a big red line through my stuff, mostly other stuff pops up every now and then, thus I spend my time on that a bit to not obsess too much about my project and make it go sour cause I'm overthinking it.

However, project related, it's really an umbrella term for; photography, writing, illustration, music and making props. In a way it's enough aspects to not make it go really sour, but for each discipline I need my time and focus, thus I can't work on props now and write later, I really have to do them one at a time.

Oh Geez I love this place I don't feel so odd. My current obessessions are:

The Muscial American Idiot (GreenDay!)
Teddy bears (stuffed and breakable)
BJD's (Ball Jointed Doll) & their clothing
Books (usually in the realm of Stephen king, Laurell K. Hamilton, JK Rowlings, Casandra Clare etc...)
Sci-fi (mostly Shows like Stargate & Andromeda)

I'm becoming slightly obsessed with baking and decorating cakes/cookies. It started off a few weeks ago when i bought a cake decorating magazine because it was only 99p(link here if you want a look). I read through it twice(and have since read it 4 more times), went to the supermarket the next day to buy all of the ingredients and I have been baking cookies since. I cannot make an icing bag out of baking paper, it always messes up(and I've had a few meltdowns over it) but I have a solution...ziplock bags make great icing bags...until I get my proper ones free with the next issue. Anyway so far I have bought 15 different cutters, lots of flavours, colours, decorations to add. I almost bought a giant donught and cookie cake mould today but resisted(I'm browsing ebay right now seeing if I can get them cheaper, if not I shall be back to the shop tomorrow for them), looked up lots of recipes...and yeah that's one of the two things I'm focused on right now.

The other is my daughter's upcoming party, I am planning and making lists and more planning and I LOVE it! I spent an hour designing invites the other day, getting the wording right, the images etc but I'm not sure I might change some of it. I've been searching for the perfect dress for her to have and some good quality fairy wings as she's having a build a bear party combined with a fairy school party(fairy school site here). I keep browsing party supply shops online looking for theme tableware, all the fine details that will make it amazing....I am very very excited and loving every minute. Plus it ties in nicely with the baking, I've bought lots of themed cookie and cake stuff to practice with before making the stuff for the party.

The Fairy School is adorable, I'll bet my nieces would love that. We're doing a Build a Bear workshop for the birthday of the youngest one (age 6). She is beside herself with joy and anticipation. Your current obsessions are fun! I am a baking enthusiast myself, and love to make old-fashioned layer cakes.

At the moment my obsessions are Asperger Syndrome and gardening with native plants. Native plants evolved with local birds, butterflies, bees and other pollinators. If you want to attract them, the best way is to provide them with the foods they most naturally want, and those will be found in native plants. Believe me, I can go on for hours but I will spare you all. I do love making my wildlife garden come to life.
