Grumpy Dude. He got bit by a black fly yesterday right under the eye and is on Benadryl and his cone for the next day or so. He's miles better than he was with the majority of the puffiness gone.

Nearly two years after Alfie died, and I still can't bring myself to get another cat, so de Milo's my only company on the pet side. But boy, is she a greedy thing! Just lucky she's hunting for herself!
I was thinking, if I could train her to sing in harmony, I could have a whole choir in one go! :smirkcat:

Thanks for all the love everyone, I was a little unsure after I posted this, if it would come across badly.
(the funny thing is, I've become very motherly over her! Not normally a green fingered type either! :))

Of course not!

I actually had a tear in my eye when I saw your plant. I'm sorry you lost your cat. I'm glad you have found a pretty little plant to keep you company. As well as my rats (and my husband and family, etc) I have my teddy bear. He's like a best friend to me. I couldn't live without my bear. At least he won't ever die like my darling pets will.

*More hugs*

Yours is thriving, mine slowly got less and less killer leaves xD I dont think it was happy but I sometimes killed bugs for it and dropped them in lol
I see you mist it too. I was afraid to do it anymore because some more fragile plants got disease and fungus from misting.

Ah! You may think that! Actually, I'd just brought her in from the garden (er, backyard actually!) where it'd had been raining! But good guess! :)

I'm in South England, btw, so she doesn't get the sort of weather she's normally expect, so I take her out if it looks like a bit of sun, so she can also get to eat, which is really important for them. And lot's of water (I'm sure you know what not to use!). Never any kind of plant food or other additive, just lots of lovely wet clean water (the dry stuff just doesn't quite hack it, I've found! ;)). But I have to admit, she's done really well. Got her last year, she even put up some flowers beginning of this year! (sadly no seeds yet, maybe next time...?), but she puts out huge leaves, over an inch long, some of them, but interestingly, plenty small one's too, which catch the tiny fruit flies and similar.
The red colouration (varies from species to species) seems to indicate health - darker red is more healthy (attracts flies looking for 'red' meat to lay eggs on, apparently).

Word of warning - never feed with dead insects. They first trap them after a second touch of a trigger hair within a minute (roughly) of the first touch. But then they usually wait for a second touch after that, to complete the closing and seal the 'mouth' and start digesting. If this doesn't happen because the insect is dead or stunned, they tend to just open up again, and waste all the energy resetting the trap, for not nutritional gain.

Oh yeah, in case I'm not totally patronising you! When it gets to winter time, they often appear to be dying, but in fact are just 'hibernating', and will often 'recover' in the spring when conditions improve (obviously need to protect if you get frosts etc, better indoors over winter, I suspect). Apparently a lot of people mistakenly throw them out  :) thinking they've had it!

For watering, I use a saucer under the pot and fill from there normally, and let it soak into the 'soil'. It's apparently good for the roots to let the water run out for a day or more from time to time, to encourage them to grow in search of better supply of water, but don't let the soil dry out! It's quite sponge like (mine is anyway) and absorbs a lot, but in the window on a sunny day, evaporates much quicker.
