What song are you listening to right now?

All the regulars here know of my obsession with the music of Joanna Newsom, I am sure.

Joanna Newsom

I've been told before that "English people don't listen to country music". My Canadian friend sent me this and this girly's voice is amazing.

This is one of my favorite villain songs now. Seriously, this show is wasted on Disney Junior. They need to be showing it on the Disney Channel proper and promoting it as one of their best series because it is.

Ys is a work of pure genius, and very depressing. This is the only song that is not about death. This album has been with me ever since it came out in 2006, and has been with me through some very tough times. I own it on CD and on vinyl.

Joanna Newsom
"Emily"

She mixes up "meteoroid" and "meteorite," but I can forgive her, because she is, after all, Joanna freakin' Newsom.

I adore classical music, I'm currently craving Mozart other than Beethoven. I also enjoy other music although not as much as classical music.

The new Greed Day cds.
I've been on the biggest Green Day kick lately. The cds Uno! Dos! and Tre! are competently written and harken back to the hey-day of Rock and Roll. They are really honing in on writing clever songs that make a lot of sense. There's a bit of cognitive dissonance at first...the cds are a huge step forward, and that's saying a lot considering the bounds GD leapt with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. There is a bonus dvd with the 3 cd set that chronicles the band's recording endeavor. It really shows the guys in a light that proves the obviousness of their genius. Sometimes I wonder if they deserve all the fame and accolades, but after watching the documentary, it's obvious why Green Day is one of the most popular bands on the planet.

The documentary kinda singles Billie out...and given that he's the main guitarist and lead singer, it's not surprising. Where the Mike and Tre seem like regular guys in a Punk band, Billie seems like a somewhat tortured genius. As if on some level he doesn't want the burden of being able to sit down at a paino or with a guitar for a few minutes and come up with a hit song. The documentary made him look like an aspie. I don't know what I think of that. Given the lyrical depth of Green Day, I don't doubt his mind...but it's not really my place to start accusing someone of being an aspie...I'm just saying the dvd made it look that way.

The song that sticks out most from the 3 cds is Let Yourself Go. It's so quintessentially Punk Rock that I can't help but smile and want to sing along.
