What was the last movie you watched?

Rewatched Tremors for the first time in a few years, good fun :) Though I think I've always liked the 2nd and 3rd movie more. I like the first 4 movies a lot.

Tremors is one that I also like to watch every now and again. Reminds me of being a kid and all of those campy horror-comedies. Tremors, Critters, Gremlins, all that good stuff from the 80's/90's. It wasn't fine cinema but it was terribly great.

You can be my Siskel. I loved Ad Astra.

Not likely. Gene Siskel would launch into the same old BS about convoluted esoteric platitudes and artistic requirements...whether he actually liked the film or not.

I went with the masses on this one; not the critics. ;) Ad Astra | Rotten Tomatoes

I just found the film's overall tempo to be terribly slow. To a point where I simply lost interest Don't get me wrong, there are some films that despite a slow tempo can keep the attention of their audience. This just isn't one of them, IMO.

That said, I recognize that film is art- and art is inherently subjective. Glad you enjoyed the film.

Yes, I especially love the Gremlins movies. Funny, I was thinking of Critters as I was watching Tremors. It's been years since I've seen the first 2 movies. Do you know if 3 and 4 are at least good entertainment? I know their IMDb ratings are reall bad... All I even remember is the Critters forming a ball and rolling over someone :D

The famous critters ball I think was from the 1st one. The 2nd is the Easter bunny scene. The 3rd is the same family but later on in an apartment building setting and it was pretty decent actually. The 4th if memory serves was "Critters in Space" which was hilarious and worth a watch but certainly not fine cinema. I mean if you've made it through the first 3 you owe it to yourself to watch the 4th. It's like Tremors, they are on what number 6 or 7 now? Yes those are still being made to this day, well last one was 2020 but I wouldn't be surprised to see another.

Thanks! I will definitely keep them in mind :) As for Tremors, a different studio took over for Tremors 5 and up. I have (I think) seen 5 and 6, but to me they lost the charm of the earlier movies.

I do agree with it having lost a lot of it's charm towards the end. I am pleased though the Michael Gross managed to be in every movie. He plays the big time gun enthuisiast from the first movie.

Michael Gross' Burt is definitely my favorite character of the series. I probably like him best in the third movie, so many funny scenes. Especially the one where he's swallowed by the graboid :D

The First Spaceship on Venus, a 1960 East German sci fi movie dubbed into English. It's quite good and atmospheric, you can see it in YouTube.

"The Stand" (2021)

A predictably poor 9-part miniseries remake of the Stephen King novel. Lacking character development and altering the original production's story line which improved nothing.

On the bright side it really drove home why you should see the original 1994 miniseries instead.

Just watched Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

It's hard getting used to a Hellboy who isn't Ron Pearlman, and a Hellboy director who isn't del Toro (huge del Toro fan here).

But... if you like Appalachian back woods witch horror, this is a real good take on a classic genre, and would be a fun Halloween watch.

It's gotten very mixed reviews, so you may like it, or think it's overdone and stupid. Definitely a matter of personal taste.

(the del Toro movies also get mixed reviews. I don't know why - to me, they were quite fun)

"The President's Lady" (1953)

Bittersweet story of a divorced woman who remarried in an era when divorce was unthinkable and loathed. And the man she loved...who would go on to become the seventh president of the United States- Andrew Jackson.
