What was the last movie you watched?

The Big Short

I had read the book, and I wondered how the hell they had managed to make it into a blockbuster film. It sorta worked, I think, to the extent that you can get away with breaking the fourth wall and that sort of thing.

Steve Carell must have had to put on a lot of weight for that role. And I think Christian Bale has finally found his niche playing someone with Asperger Syndrome. (I never liked him as an actor, even though he's sexy as hell.)

Christian Bale was good in the Batman trilogy IMO, but then I'm a Batman fan so I'll watch almost anyone as the "Dark Knight", just a shame that Batman Forever was crap because Val Kilmer has the screen presence of a fish and can't act.

I watched the live action version of Cinderella earlier on Sky Disney, pretty good.

"The Wizard Of Oz"

Still a classic.

Though I found myself wanting to rewrite some of the dialogue for a more contemporary audience. Which I suspect would be quite funny, although quite politically incorrect as well. :p

The wizard of Oz is the last movie I watched also. I recently read Judy garland was treated horribly throughout her acting career.

That's sadly quite true. The studios with all their controls and demands destroyed her as a child actor.

Fame doesn't always translate into fortune.

Just got back from seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 8/10

Was surprised to see Peter Cushing in it towards the end, I thought he'd been dead for years.

And in the final scene they had an Actress who was a dead ringer for a young Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.

Sorry for the slight spoilers.

Yesterday I went to the theater to see the movie Arrival. I didn't plan it but the new star wars was opening so I was the only one in the theater. Amazing movie...Sci-fi but story driven like contact or 2001 space oddesey. They use tiny tricks in language to allude to what the twist in the movie is. One of my best overall experiences at the theater.

Watched The Lion King today (it was on so I watched it lol). I kinda remembered watching it when I was 4 but I didn't really think I could remember anything until it happened.

I gotta say, I loved it, apart from the singing (I like music, but I don't really like musicals)... and I now understand why people at school eventually started calling me "Scar" :P

I was about 18 when that first came out, starring James Earl Jones (AKA the voice of Darth Vader) as the voice of Simba's father Mufasa, it was a Disney classic, and Lion King 2 was just as good if not slightly better IMO.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Lion King musical if it ever moves out of London.

It was in New York, at one time. I remember hearing a parody of the Lion King on NPR some years ago, in regards to the many neck injuries due to the weight of the costumes...

I've heard the musical contains content that was cut from the original movie due to time constraints, censorship etc. I don't really like musical theatre though - just not the kind of thing I'd like to see really. It'll be interesting to see how the live action remake turns out, though.

Haven't seen the Lion King 2 but I plan to watch it soon.

I actually like the classic Disney animations a lot better than I thought - that includes things like Dumbo, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians... I appreciate them a whole lot more, now I'm an adult, than I ever did as a kid. Whether or not today's kids will be saying the same about Frozen in 20+ years time remains to be seen, but I have my doubts.

Edit:

I was bored last night so watched The Lion King 2 (found somewhere to watch online). My thoughts are - as a stand alone movie it was great, but it doesn't follow on from the first movie very well.

Moana, and I very much enjoyed it. There was a bit of a "meta" element to it, almost as though the filmmakers weren't wild about the fact that it had to be a musical (thought it was quite fun hearing Dwayne Johnson sing). I also loved not only the fact that it was a princess movie without a love interest, but that they did not belabor that point. The animation was absolutely gorgeous, even though I did pick up on the fact that they were blatantly ripping off Studio Ghibli elements, lol.

Ace Ventura - Pet Detective, because if I'm being honest, sometimes I love to laugh at over exaggerated humour, no matter how stupid it it.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Meat Loaf as Eddie, Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff and Tim Curry as Frank N'Furter.

Excellent musical.

Also watched ET again last night, still cry at the sad bits.

Watched Monsters University yesterday. It's kinda funny - you know, cheap laughs... pretty ordinary like most disney/pixar stuff nowadays, but enjoyable.

Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm
Suicide Squad
Batman Forever
Mom kept getting the identity of the Phantasm wrong. Wouldn't tell her because I wanted it to be like when my 8-year old niece thought Joker died in SS.

I was 8 when it came out and we watched it in primary school at the end of the school year. First film I ever cried watching...and it was on on Christmas day just gone aaand it still makes me cry!

One of my favourite films of all time! We attempted to watch the "remake" that fox made and we didn't even manage 45 minutes. It was terrible. I don't cope well with things being changed from how they were done in the original if it's something I really like. Every time they'd done something different I pointed it out and annoyed my husband :D

The last film I watched was Deepwater Horizon. I've wanted to see it for ages, and I wasn't disappointed.

I think it made me cry when I first saw it too - but not for the reasons it makes everyone else cry. I mean, I remember finding Scar killing Mufasa and blaming it on Simba thing pretty disturbing but... it was the bug eating scene that occurred shortly afterwards that really upset me!

Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't watch the 3rd movie as a kid. The snail eating contest still makes me gag. I think it's an association thing - the same babysitter who put the Lion King on for me to watch also made snails for dinner one day - my brother asked for snails for dinner because she was french, and it turns out she knew how to cook them! It was one of those "be careful what you wish for" situations. So when I watch these scenes in the Lion King movies, I guess it subliminally reminds me of the time I had to eat snails.
