  • My raspberry Pi adblocker died. I had to set it all up again on a new SD card. Its up and running again but as usually Raspberry Pis are a constant source of frustration. Hopefully it won't go down for another 4 years lol! :-)
I kinda want a Polaroid instant camera. But damn! The film is expensive! 8 exposures for like £13!? But the cameras look so funky and I like the idea of committing to a shot and the analogue aesthetic. There's other instant cameras but I don't find them as appealing. Wonder if there's generic film for Polaroids?

Film is far better for black and white photography, it always seems much sharper and better defined that a desaturated colour photo. But these days that's a niche art market and not cheap.

Yeah, the original Polaroid went bankrupt and some enthusiasts bought up some of the machines that produced the film and eventually managed to get the brand back. They were initially known as the Impossible Project. I had no idea that the world of Polaroid photography was so complicated lol! :-)

I kinda like the way Polaroid photos make everything look like it came from the 70s/80s I do have a couple of film cameras. One has an unfinished roll of film and assuming its still viable, it should have a few pictures of my cat on it from 8-9 years ago. I really should get it developed.
I'm starting to de-google my devices. I'm a bit annoyed with some of Google's recent decisions and I think a bit of a recalibration of my digital dependencies is in order. I'm using an open source keyboard on my phone to type this and so far it seems pretty good :-)

A big part of Google's business model is to sell advertisements and to do that they need to track users. They were caught tracking users a while back, even those users that had switched off all tracking features on the user end. I believe they received a large fine for doing so.

Have you tried using an alternative OS such as /e/OS or GrapheneOS? They only work with certain phone models, but can be an option for properly getting rid of Android (most Android versions are proprietary Google flavoured platforms).

Yup. To be fair I had always suspected that they were doing that regardless of what options I had set. I have heard of GrapheneOS but I'm going to try that on my old phone maybe to see how well it works before I jump in with my other devices :-)
I got a new tablet and stylus for Christmas. I'm finding my way with it using Medibang to draw. I have been drawing a picture of my cat. I think it's been going quite well. I haven't finished the background, but I'm quite pleased with how he looks. Miss him so much.

Pencil and paper are still nice too.

I have bought some small sketch books so I can also get used to "analogue" drawing again. After a very unpleasant experience with an art teacher when I was younger, I didn't draw anything at all for 20 years or so. Drawing on a tablet kinda got me interested again so hopefully I will get back into the habit again :-)

@Judge A stylus definitely feels more natural but it also kinda takes a bit of getting used to. Some don't provide "palm rejection" so you can't rest your hand like you can when drawing on paper. You also may not have features like "tilting" and "pressure sensitivity". You can get some pretty good USB drawing tablets quite cheap though so might be worth a try :-)
I feel so sad 😿 Last Saturday evening, I had to say goodbye to my sweet, wonderful cat. It was the most distressing and traumatic thing I've had to do in such a long time. We had just shy of 18 years together and I love him deeply. I miss him so much and it's been such a shock. I miss him following me around all the time and the cuddles. He was so beautiful.

Thank you @Rodafina he definitely was and will always be my good good friend. I woke up today and it felt like he was waiting on the bed next to me. Thanks to everyone for your kind posts. I hope everyone will give their pets and loved ones an extra nice hug today.
My poor cat is doing his best. It's all come as such a shock. He had a lovely time a Christmas and now he's struggling so much. I feel very lucky that he seems better in the mornings and still wakes me with his usual greeting of nose bumps and nose cleans. I guess he's trying to take care of me too. He's such a sweetheart.
The last 24 hours have been awful 😿 My cat hasn't been himself. I took him to the vet and it's not good news. He has a tumor and he's very sick. Honestly I thought I'd never bring him home after the call from the vet. I spent nearly two hours crying. They've given him steroids to hopefully control the symptoms. I'm so grateful for this time with him.

I wish the best for your cat. I lost a cat to cancer before. I know how you feel.

Thanks again everyone. My cat had quite a rough night and there didn't seem to be much I could do to comfort him. He eventually curled up in the corner and I tried to keep an eye on him while I was in bed. I woke up and he seems to be feeling better today. He did his morning greeting to me, where he licks my nose and rests his head against mine. It seems like a good sign :-)
I think I may have this as my new years drink :-) I've been having too much fizzy soda these past few days 😸

It's one of those drinks I don't often have but it looks like it will be very nice :-) I don't drink alcohol so I guess it will be something a little different :-)
Well... I did it! Everything done and prepared for Christmas before 11pm! That has to be something of a record! Time for a long bath I think! :-)
Today is going to be busy, I need to get a lot done with not much margin for error. Turkey is defrosting, cake needs frosting, things need to be wrapped, rooms need cleaning and if I get the chance, bake some fat rascal cakes! 🙃
The Christmas cake needs a bit longer. Our oven can be a little unpredictable at times. I make this recipe every year and this is the first time it's required a little extra time hopefully another 40-50 minutes. Fingers crossed again! :-)

My Mum was great with cakes but we had to be careful in the house when she was baking, we weren't allowed to make too much noise or slam any doors. "Better yet, why don't you all go and play outside for a while?". :)

    So how'd it turn out?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It turned out just right I think! 🙂 My phone started running out of battery so I didn't get a chance to post an update 🙃 It's all cooled down now so the next stage is the icing. I usually apply a layer of jam and then marzipan, then another later of jam and finally some fondant icing :-)
I've decided today is going to be a lazy day full of kitty cuddles and not much else :-)

From America currently snuggling with my Manx tabby. The other cat (not sure what kind she is) just emerged from the dresser drawer where she was nesting, and wandered off.

I had a tabby when I was a child. He was an orange tabby. My brother brought him back from Sicily.

There are few things in life that can compete with kitty cuddles @Gerontius, except maybe the holidays combined with kitty cuddles 😸 @FayetheAspie you had a globe trotting orange tabby :-) My cat has a few orange accents around his face. My first cat as a child was an orange cat too :-)
My thrift store find for this week! I think I'm going to read my cat the story of when Piglet meets a Heffalump. I think he'd like that one :-)

I like Eeyore, I can relate to him right now. I'm also just like Tigger with my hyperactivity and Piglet with my anxiety lol

That's so cool, great find! I love getting complete collection books. I usually look for graphic novels and books like this. I need to start sharing some of my more interesting thrift store finds. My most recent purchase was a new with tags pair of Levi's shorts in my size for $1. Love thrift stores.

Reading to your cat, that's so sweet. Pets love the sound of their human's voices :)
If you are in the UK I hope this storm hasn't caused you any trouble! The wind is pretty ferocious here and I'm not in the area of the country that has the really bad winds! I really hope it will be over soon! Stay safe!
