  • I've been watching the 90s version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Anyone remember that? It's a bit strange watching it now, it seems strangely old fashioned in it's references, even for the time. I remember it had an episode with the Violent Femmes featured in it. Not exactly the trendiest band considering. But it reminds me of a time where things were briefly good in my life and it's nice to revisit it :-)

I have watched it a number of times, but it wasn't a favourite of mine, as you can imagine.

i didnt even have attention span to follow a plot for a childrens show like that, but it seemed alright, id have watched it if i watched that kind of thing

if i watched it now, id probably have unwarranted nostalgia and pretend i always loved it and things were better back then! :D
I've been messing around with FM transmitters today. I can't stand a lot of music on the radio, so I had the idea of getting one of those little transmitters you plug into an MP3 player so I could have my own radio station. It worked well, perhaps a little to well and it was possible to pick it up maybe 200 feet away so I hope my neighbours like Tom Waits! 😸

THe only way to make it more cosy would be a storm and cup of tea

I like the static sounds. The fuzzy clicks and pops are comforting. Even though I know it's not real, it has this quality that I find reassuring that I'm probably not doing a good job of explaining 😸. I suppose it creates the illusion of activity going on in the world somewhere. Like there's a world out there but it's at a comfortable distance. Does that make any sense to anyone? 🤔

i know what you mean, precisely.
I did it! :-) I managed to squeeze the new solid state drive into the iMac so my dad can use his old hard drive and not immediately fill up the new SSD. I hope this will keep it going for a good long while yet! :-)

Updating my Dad's iMac to Sonoma with OpenCore and installing an SSD to hopefully get another good few years out of it! Wish me luck! :-)

That picture shocked me, the installer is nearly 20 gig in size. How big's your USB stick?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It's 32 gigs! I suspect it comes with a few updates as last time I'm pretty sure it was about 11 GB :-)
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It seems to have gone well :-) The OS is running over USB currently and everything works except that the web cam is all green through QuickTime. Not a big deal I suspect and I can install OBS to work around it. So tomorrow I will install the SSD in the actual computer :-)
It's so stormy and windy today. I think it's making me get a headache and that's usually a sign that it's going to be a very bad storm. It's like I have a weird "6th sense". I'd prefer to be able to predict winning lottery numbers.

Actually that's quite a good way to describe it, particularly the tin comparison! It's been bugging me all day that I kinda know the smell I associate with impending rain but I've never actually described it before and it was more challenging than I thought!

Probably not really the same in your climate, but in the cities here just before the rain hits you get hit with that hot bitumen tar smell. That happens here because our roads get pretty hot and the first few drops of rain to fall turn in to steam.

    Love the smell of tar!
I really hope that the internet archive will be available again soon. I'd just discovered that it was a really good source for documentaries and I had just started downloading on the exact day it got attacked by hackers 😞 Fortunately I did manage to get a good few before it went down.

I'm really hoping that they can fix it. I did notice in the bundle of documentaries I got that some of the BBC documentaries started off with a US TV ident. I can't remember which one right now. Others had an American voice over when the one I watched years ago had a British one.

Cool :-) I will check it out :-)
Just had a super weird experience. I had migraine with aura (visual disturbance) while I was asleep and I could see the jagged rainbow I usually see but in my sleep. It was a weird lucid dream and I rarely ever dream. It woke me up and took about an hour to pass.
I just got this pillow. It's very firm, I'm hoping it might help me stop attempting to tunnel through the head of the bed head first when I'm sleeping :)

I might see if I can put the pillow under the sheet. I'm not sure why but in my sleep I seem pretty determined to tunnel headfirst through the head of the bed. If the walls weren't made of bricks, I think I'd regularly wake up halfway down the street! 🤪

I am doing the same thing and I kinda gave up. It was interesting tho that when I once was sleeping on the mattress on the floor (so no head of the bed), I would just push away pillow and then sleep using my arm as a pillow lol
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
I end up using my arm as a pillow too :-) I think I need a padded bedroom 😆
I went into a thrift store today and look at what was sitting on the first shelf I looked at as if it had been placed there waiting for me to discover it :) ...

Got to love a good find especially related to a special interest.
And it looks like it's in excellent condition! Paperbacks rarely survive nicely.

    Yes, excellent condition.

    MildredHubble
Yes, absolutely @Gerontius :-) I guess it's quite funny, if you saw me go in there you'd swear I already knew it was there 😸 but honestly I just walked in saw it immediately and picked it up :-) Even though it's not a cover illustration I'm familiar with. It leapt out at me :-)
I'm starting to consider doing some sort of freelance work through fiverr. It will probably be something I approach slowly and cautiously. I don't want to rush into anything that might make me super unwell again. It might be a way of sidestepping office politics that I just no longer can deal with.

I guess I would say so. I'm in a lot of pain nearly all of the time and I have bipolar disorder, which seems to be manifesting as mostly depression these days. I'm very slow at getting things done that used to feel so easy. Things certainly pile up that I used to have no problem getting done. And when I do get things done it exhausts me.
    T
    thejuice
Is it pain all around the body?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
Kinda, I get pain on my right hip, lower back, and knee. On my left side it feels like I have a rib in my back that got injured and never healed properly. I have pain in my right shoulder which I think causes tension in my neck. It also goes into spasm at times when I reach for things or lift something. It's like a spiral of pain.
Uh, I have a nasty headache and can't sleep. Hopefully the painkillers will help. It's that special kind of headache that gets better only when you adopt a specific position. Laying down makes it worse :-(
Just ordered two t shirts. One has a picture of a cat glugging a bottle of Coca Cola and the other has 4 cartoony cats with the caption "Ew People" on it. I kinda realised I communicate through the medium of t shirts! :)

Oh wow! I just found a new Worst Witch collectable! There's a 50th Anniversary version of the first book in a posh clothbound presentation with new and colour illustrations :-) I just pre-ordered it and I should get it September 12th! I can't wait! :-)
My poor cat has not been himself all day and I noticed his right eye seemed to look a bit sore. Eventually I managed to clean his eye up with some tissues and he was so well behaved while I did it. I found what looked like an insect stinger on the tissue that had been in his eye. I hope he's feeling better now!

I'm glad it turned out to be "just" a sore claw, although the poor guy must have been very uncomfortable. Sounds like he might have had a run-in with a thorny bush or something outside?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
@AuroraBorealis I think it was causing him a lot of pain :( He is a house cat so he must have hurt his paw somewhere in the house. I'm not entirely sure how, but he was howling for me the other day but he seemed ok and I had assumed that was when he got the sting in his eye. He seems much better now and he's having a snooze :)

I should have left a smiley face with my message. It's been 40 years now but remembering a mate laughing so hard he couldn't breathe properly still brings a smile to my face. Glad to hear the cat's OK but keep an eye on that claw for infection. Cats aren't as clean as you think.
My favourite coffee mug has been missing for quite a while. I'm getting a bit worried that it's been broken :-( In other news, I found a Jean Michel Jarre record at the thrift store and my cat is absolutely fascinated by it :)
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
@Outdated I'll bet she loved that! :-) She probably thought it was a big treat! I get really paranoid about bones with my cat. I know they can chew through things like that and their tongues allow them to strip the meat off bones. My cat is unusual as he doesn't like gravy! He's the first cat I've known to not go nuts for it!

Dogs and cats are the same with bones. If they learned how to eat with bones when they were little then they'll be fine. It's animals that didn't get to learn how to handle them that have trouble with them. We always gave cooked bones to our cats and dogs, we couldn't afford to not feed ourselves first and animals cleaned up the leftovers.
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
That makes sense. I gave him some salmon for a treat at Christmas and he ate all of it except a little piece that had some bone in it. I guess it's a good sign that he avoided that part and perhaps I don't need to be overly paranoid about him eating bones :-)
Just found my replica Tufty Club badge/button. I had a real one when I was very young. For those of you not from the UK and also younger than your average Boomer or GenXer. The Tufty Club was a road safety education scheme in the UK. When you completed your exercise booklet you got a real Tufty Club badge :)

@Aspychata It is isn't it :-) I was very proud of my original Tufty Club badge. They were given to us by what we called a "Lollipop Man" at school. They were called that because the sign they used to stop traffic to allow children to cross the road looked like lollipop :-)
Been watching a youtube video by a guy that is Dumpster Diving in the UK. He's going through an Amazon dumpster and it's quite shocking what they throw away!
My girlfriend got me some paper you can print stickers on. I saw a kinda hand drawn Apple logo the other day that I thought was quite funky so I tried to recreate it to stick on my G4 Mac mini. Not absolutely terrible for a first try I guess. I quite like it :)
