  • The Christmas cake needs a bit longer. Our oven can be a little unpredictable at times. I make this recipe every year and this is the first time it's required a little extra time hopefully another 40-50 minutes. Fingers crossed again! :-)

My Mum was great with cakes but we had to be careful in the house when she was baking, we weren't allowed to make too much noise or slam any doors. "Better yet, why don't you all go and play outside for a while?". :)

    So how'd it turn out?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It turned out just right I think! 🙂 My phone started running out of battery so I didn't get a chance to post an update 🙃 It's all cooled down now so the next stage is the icing. I usually apply a layer of jam and then marzipan, then another later of jam and finally some fondant icing :-)
I've decided today is going to be a lazy day full of kitty cuddles and not much else :-)

From America currently snuggling with my Manx tabby. The other cat (not sure what kind she is) just emerged from the dresser drawer where she was nesting, and wandered off.

I had a tabby when I was a child. He was an orange tabby. My brother brought him back from Sicily.

There are few things in life that can compete with kitty cuddles @Gerontius, except maybe the holidays combined with kitty cuddles 😸 @FayetheAspie you had a globe trotting orange tabby :-) My cat has a few orange accents around his face. My first cat as a child was an orange cat too :-)
My thrift store find for this week! I think I'm going to read my cat the story of when Piglet meets a Heffalump. I think he'd like that one :-)

I like Eeyore, I can relate to him right now. I'm also just like Tigger with my hyperactivity and Piglet with my anxiety lol

That's so cool, great find! I love getting complete collection books. I usually look for graphic novels and books like this. I need to start sharing some of my more interesting thrift store finds. My most recent purchase was a new with tags pair of Levi's shorts in my size for $1. Love thrift stores.

Reading to your cat, that's so sweet. Pets love the sound of their human's voices :)
If you are in the UK I hope this storm hasn't caused you any trouble! The wind is pretty ferocious here and I'm not in the area of the country that has the really bad winds! I really hope it will be over soon! Stay safe!
I spent this evening fixing up an iMac as a Christmas gift for our friend. I bought a super cheap SSD thinking it was worth a try, on Amazon. I'm super impressed, it loads apps in a nano second! I guess I need to change my opinion on cheaper SSD drives! :-)
Who knows where I grabbed this picture from?

It's a fantastic guess @RESleight but in this specific case it's not the right answer as crazy as it sounds! But when I saw it, it was even funnier in context! 😸

Let's say you are both right and wrong 😸

I will let everyone in on the secret 😸 In this specific case, the image is from an episode of The A Team. It is actually footage from Airplane! but not technically taken from it. It's spliced in at the end of the episode where Murdoch has to help Hannibal land a plane while he's blinded. Seeing it was the most hysterically funny thing I've seen this year! 😸 It was the last thing I was expecting.
It's soooo cold! And I can't find my slipper socks! 😐

That sounds so nice! But I also think I would probably melt. I seem to be made for a very specific range on temperature lol! :-)
My domestic "pirate radio station" has been pretty good tonight. We've had Ry Cooder, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Tori Amos and Tom Petty :-) I wonder what's next! :-)

Yo, @MildredHubble , I found myself a new jam, I think you might like it. "We Know Something You Don't Know" by DJ Format. Every time I listen to it with headphones and/or some good delta, I see, like, retro video game-style music videos in my head lol.

Thanks @UberScout :-) I will check it out :-) I do like pixel art and old computers and video games :-) It would be quite cool if I find it has the same effect on me :-)
Feeling rather sick 🤢 I seem feeling very headachey and ill after eating tomato based food, like soup. My head is pounding and like I'm going to be sick. I just had some sweet earl grey tea and I think it might be helping a bit :-) My girlfriend makes lovely tomato soup but I seem to react to it 😕

Oh dear...as an emetophobe I have great sympathy for you. I hope you're feeling better now.
I've been watching the 90s version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Anyone remember that? It's a bit strange watching it now, it seems strangely old fashioned in it's references, even for the time. I remember it had an episode with the Violent Femmes featured in it. Not exactly the trendiest band considering. But it reminds me of a time where things were briefly good in my life and it's nice to revisit it :-)

I have watched it a number of times, but it wasn't a favourite of mine, as you can imagine.

i didnt even have attention span to follow a plot for a childrens show like that, but it seemed alright, id have watched it if i watched that kind of thing

    thejuice
if i watched it now, id probably have unwarranted nostalgia and pretend i always loved it and things were better back then! :D
I've been messing around with FM transmitters today. I can't stand a lot of music on the radio, so I had the idea of getting one of those little transmitters you plug into an MP3 player so I could have my own radio station. It worked well, perhaps a little to well and it was possible to pick it up maybe 200 feet away so I hope my neighbours like Tom Waits! 😸

THe only way to make it more cosy would be a storm and cup of tea

I like the static sounds. The fuzzy clicks and pops are comforting. Even though I know it's not real, it has this quality that I find reassuring that I'm probably not doing a good job of explaining 😸. I suppose it creates the illusion of activity going on in the world somewhere. Like there's a world out there but it's at a comfortable distance. Does that make any sense to anyone? 🤔

i know what you mean, precisely.
I did it! :-) I managed to squeeze the new solid state drive into the iMac so my dad can use his old hard drive and not immediately fill up the new SSD. I hope this will keep it going for a good long while yet! :-)
    1000007773.jpg
Updating my Dad's iMac to Sonoma with OpenCore and installing an SSD to hopefully get another good few years out of it! Wish me luck! :-)

That picture shocked me, the installer is nearly 20 gig in size. How big's your USB stick?
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It's 32 gigs! I suspect it comes with a few updates as last time I'm pretty sure it was about 11 GB :-)
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
It seems to have gone well :-) The OS is running over USB currently and everything works except that the web cam is all green through QuickTime. Not a big deal I suspect and I can install OBS to work around it. So tomorrow I will install the SSD in the actual computer :-)
It's so stormy and windy today. I think it's making me get a headache and that's usually a sign that it's going to be a very bad storm. It's like I have a weird "6th sense". I'd prefer to be able to predict winning lottery numbers.

Actually that's quite a good way to describe it, particularly the tin comparison! It's been bugging me all day that I kinda know the smell I associate with impending rain but I've never actually described it before and it was more challenging than I thought!

Probably not really the same in your climate, but in the cities here just before the rain hits you get hit with that hot bitumen tar smell. That happens here because our roads get pretty hot and the first few drops of rain to fall turn in to steam.

    Love the smell of tar!
I really hope that the internet archive will be available again soon. I'd just discovered that it was a really good source for documentaries and I had just started downloading on the exact day it got attacked by hackers 😞 Fortunately I did manage to get a good few before it went down.
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
I'm really hoping that they can fix it. I did notice in the bundle of documentaries I got that some of the BBC documentaries started off with a US TV ident. I can't remember which one right now. Others had an American voice over when the one I watched years ago had a British one.

Just had a super weird experience. I had migraine with aura (visual disturbance) while I was asleep and I could see the jagged rainbow I usually see but in my sleep. It was a weird lucid dream and I rarely ever dream. It woke me up and took about an hour to pass.
