  • First big rainstorm of the season here. I can hear rain coming down. Gonna rain on and off all week.

Today I learned that I can not parachute into a forum for highly specialized knowledge workers, meaning computer programmers, drop an Arduino program that they realized was copypasta gibberish, then ask them if it was ok. They told me to try to compile it and that resulted in 4 pages of errors. My attempts to fix it only dug me deeper. Tonight I stopped digging.

Sometimes writing your own is actually easier. What's the project?

Arduino dual time (local and UTC) clock based on Velleman Arduino modules. Well, it was. The parts are going in the shed for a while.
I am bigly screwed. The pharmacy in Yreka is all out of Adderall and I only have a couple doses left. I am going to have to call the one in Mount Shasta and hope they have some. Then I have to get the doctor to write a whole new prescription due to CA laws.

Yep, there really is an intersection of Gold and Miner in Yreka, just west of the historic business district.

An Aussie equivalent for you. Yes, there is a town in the Australian Alps called Yass. Yes, it has a McDonalds. Yes, the sign is real.

I have a new inverter for the 120vAC plugs in my house, a 1000w Renogy. Renogy is really among the best brands in the US for solar equipment.
FINALLY back in Jefferson after having to spend four days in Sacramento so I could get my dentures fixed and my home lithium battery properly recharged. Then the day after driving home from Sacramento I had to go retrieve my Cummins generator in Eugene, Ore., about 225 miles north.

The only thing wrong with it was that the oil was too low. I have constantly had problems getting the oil level right. The tech at Cummins authorized repair center showed me how to fill it correctly.
wishes that I could still find cool gif memes on Craigslist. All that is there now is horrible political stuff.
is living with only a single small LED lantern for light until I can get my house battery running. Turns out the battery distributor no longer offers charging services, so I will use my grandfather's 1940s era industrial grade charger.
I've been off for a few days bc my lithium house battery died and my main generator is in Eugene, Ore., being serviced. My mom finally sent me money for a cheap stopgap generator. I will have to take the battery to the distributor in Reno for a proper recharge/renewal.
My generator quit, likely because it needs a fuel filter. Unfortunately, replacing it can only be done by qualified Cummins service personnel. So I have to take it to the heavy equipment dealer in Medford and talk them into looking at it.
My printer is already out of ink. That stuff is really hard to find in the type I need and it is super expensive when I do find it.
I had an intense dream last night where the reptilians went on national TV and admitted that all the conspiracy theories were true. When I woke up my entire body was tense and it took 15min to relax. Very weird.

Isn't it wonderful how our subconscious is an awesome producer of horror and bad plots. And we don't have the remote control to change the channel.

unplugged my shortwave ham radio antennas due to thunderstorms in the area. It just started to rain but no thunder/lightning seems to be accompanying it.
is concerned that in a couple years there might be serious shortages of food and other goods. At least I will be able to garden and forage, which means I will be better off than city dwellers.
is angry that a locust infestation meant that I could not plant a garden this year. At least I can still forage for acorns and wild berries.
I was talking with my mom on voice phone yesterday (3 August) and suddenly the siren sound went off on my damaged inverter. My mom then said I had her permission to go to Medford that day and use the joint credit card to replace it. So I did. No more sirens at random times, yay.
I have to buy a new small inverter, it runs the general AC plug system in my tiny house for little stuff like alarm clock and cell phone signal amplifier and laptop. Mom says "you broke it, you pay to replace it". So I have to wait a couple weeks for my new credit card statement period to start.

Get a battery alarm clock as they're not that hard to keep going. You don't need to make 110vAC to run a clock when clocks run on 1.5-9vDC easily.

For my bedside clock I use a LED clock so I can see it in the dark. I tried battery ones, they eat batteries incredibly fast. When I first moved out here I had a clock from Ikea, and one night it drained to zero while I slept. I woke up in the morning with a nice Swedish brick next to my bed. Lithium batteries don't change the equation either.
