Jazz

Ahh I have managed to find something that captivates me again. Almost maximalist theme writing but so clean and thought-out that it's in its own dimension separate from other grand sounds like big band improvisation. What a torrent of ideas yet not beyond the realm of comprehension. I'm glad the album is small at only 4 tracks so I feel like I can actually digest this within a reasonable time frame.
Not to mention the sound is just pure manic fun, very touching.

The Green Mill Jazz Club in Chicago will host their Gypsy Jazz festival with Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan Fri. Aug 18 and Sat. Aug 19.

If you like Gypsy Jazz and Django Reinhardt this is a great place to feed your Jazz obsession. Great Music! I will be there.

I just discovered this and thought it was pretty good:

Duke Ellington and His Orchestra - Such Sweet Thunder

Unfortunately, a few tracks are unavailable on streaming, though I don't know why.

I tried to find the Art Ensemble of Chicago's Mingus tribute, "Charlie M," but it's not on YouTube. This is a great live clip where you can hear some of it (starts a little after the 4:00 mark), with a long intro:

This album haunted me for a while when I forgot Graves' name and couldn't find it again. Luckily after piecing it together over the course of a few weeks I managed to somehow hunt it down. Crazy-good stuff. He makes me want to learn jazz piano

Nice! It reminds me of Return to Forever.

It's not on YouTube, but "Blue Cloud" by Tomasz Stańko and New York Quartet, from December Avenue. The whole album is good, but I really love this track. The album is based on the writing of Bruno Schulz.

I didn't listen to the whole set, just the long version of "My Favorite Things" (57:18). I've read a lot about Coltrane's long live versions, but hadn't hear one yet.

Is this jazz? 🤔 Silje is a jazz singer and Norways best selling jazz artist. I just think this sounds a little different from other jazz I hear. But this is Norwegian jazz apparently. In Santa Maria di Castellabate, Italy. ☀️
