I heard something crazy about him on the radio, it was a program about music. When he released that song "Ice Ice Baby", he was immediately sued by Queen and David Bowie. Because he used their song "Under Pressure" and he didn't ask them for permission first. But instead of trying to settle the case, Vanilla Ice actually bought the rights to the song "Under Pressure" from Queen for 4 million dollars. So he still gets the royalties from that song now. I thought that was an unusual story. Very clever to buy the rights to that song.

How the mighty have fallen…

Although Ice was once one of the most famous musical acts in the game, his life has changed drastically over the years. These days, the father of three is using his famous face, hit song, and entertaining skills to sell light fixtures for Capitol Lighting. His specific designs are called "Vanilla Ice Lighting," and include fixtures such as wall sconces and chandeliers (via Joe). Of course, his catchphrase is "Light, Lights Baby," which is a play on his biggest hit song, "Ice Ice Baby."

Vanilla Ice, Ice-T, Ice Cube, why did rappers call themselves Ice back in the day I wonder? Because they were cool? That's a little silly isn't it. :)

Long ago, I worked for a special effects place, and one of our specialties was giant inflatables. There was a rush job where the crew worked all night, and then went to do a test in a nearby church yard, the only nearby grassy space, where we had permission and a handy power outlet. My friend Debbie watched it inflate, but also watched one of the nearby drinkers, sleeping it off near the fence. When the test was almost done, the guy opened one eye, and saw a three storey tall, bright red Maple leaf. He closed that eye, waited a bit, and then tried the other eye.

I never thought about this before, but in these days of ubiquitous mobile phone ownership, are there any phone boxes left for Clark to change in?
