Cats do not like to stop and ask for directions...

The red circle is the cats home in Lofoten Islands. And somehow it managed to travel all the way down to the black circle, where someone found the cat in a neighborhood in downtown Oslo, the capital. It's a little amazing, the things cats do.

One of Louisiana’s rare snow days happened today 😀 Its up past my ankles - which is even rarer. We get maybe 1 inch or so on the ground if this happens. I was so stoked to wake up to this

Is that cyclone headed toward you or away?
Me personally? No, I'm about 3000 Km away from that. It will likely hit land at some stage but for now it's just skimming along the coast bringing heaps of much needed rain to one of the driest parts of the country.

Strict building codes means that there's usually very little damage from cyclones here.

About fifteen years ago in the lab, the owner of our ink pigment supplier came in with a sales guy from our company
who had retired years ago but stayed on as a consultant. They started discussing ink formulating. I knew nothing about inks my expertise was paints. The owner of the pigment company then stated any ink formula needs white pigment for hiding, and our sales guy said yes no you do not transparent white can be used other words for clear coat. The supplier then said your wrong I have 40 years experience, the sales guy then said your wrong I have 60 years experience. All I knew was that our company at the time had the gold standard for print experience.
This quick heated debate was career changing for me. I saw what our sales guy was doing, he called the shots before with the chemist formulating the inks before I started, had forced the chemist to reduce the white in the formulas for years. When I took over making the inks and making the formulas year s later I slowly reduced the white until it was,
most 2% of formula used the base coat to get the colour. This is still considered not possible by the industry, however the proof is in the pudding. I added my ability to control colour to the inks and paints. No other company any where can come close to, my former employers capability. All because I could see what the older guy saw took it to the next level. I made an ink once ran out of pigment asked the supplier to make my formula them selves They told me it was impossible, weird I just made it customer wants more run on line they want to increase order. I just ran out of pigment.
I was able to do this as I had no experience with inks, did not know what the limits were or so called rules.

Most lithographic printing inks are transparent. That's how we control the colour during that actual print process, more ink for a darker colour, less ink for lighter.

When mixing colours prior to printing transparent white is used where applicable. We also had opaque white but that was for special cases and very rarely ever used, metallic inks were also opaque.

As we moved in to the late 80s and 90s more and more ink companies started using synthetic resins in their inks and this made life harder for the printer because the synthetic resins couldn't carry as much pigment as the natural tree resins. We had to put twice as much ink on the paper to get the same colour density. I used to only ever buy ink from one company in Korea - Roller Tiger. Korea didn't have any petrochemical plants of their own and they were still using natural resins for their inks.

I just have experience with gravure ink basecoat, ink, clear coat. on metal substrate. colour match from one coil to coil even years apart, no perceptible colour variation. vinyl, fluorocarbon, inks over polyester or fluorocarbon, basecoat. Most of the prints before I started were above ground pools 90% of pool wall done by this plant. prior to me starting there. Basically when the two older guys started arguing. I had no idea what they where talking about.
only 8 pigments. white, black, yellow red, blue red, green blue, red blue, yellow, and clear. Depth of dots controlled
intensity of ink.

I was working in a sign shop, and my girlfriend had broken a few pieces from her dinnerware set. She wanted to shop for matching pieces, but didn't want to risk carrying a saucer around. I asked to take one in to work to make a matching colour chip. No, that was also too risky. Next I told her I'd made one from memory, and she scoffed, until I dropped it on her plate at dinner and it vanished.

Not sure what is going on with world, is it following a fractal or is it going chaotic. Starting to look like a Jackson Pollock painting.
