Yes, think of Mayday as just meaning some emergency for the sake of this riddle. The 3 dots/periods between Mayday were just representing some Morse code.
 
I don't think anyone else is playing today. What is the answer? I can't think of anything else worth even mentioning.
 
Okay, so we're dealing of some device (maybe), used in the home by turning it or its switch counterclockwise. It's open (on?) except in specific, unsafe (?) circumstances, and has something to do with liquid.

@FayetheAspie. Will accept your two answers as the win as you could be referring to the water shut off values there. I was mainly thinking of the hot and cold water shut off valves under the sinks.

Only on the water heater one.
I just meant the on off switch on the washing machine. I was just thinking of something that turns on and off and involved a liquid. Then I thought of the hot water heater and it's shut off valve and thought a hot water heater made more sense than a washing machine.
