What was the last movie you watched?

"The Conversation"

Creepy Francis Ford Coppola film about a professional wiretapper who overhears a murder plot and gets involved. Bad idea!

Home

I wouldn't call Home a great movie, but it is a very, very good one. While it doesn't quite reach the heights of Shrek 2, The Croods or How To Train Your Dragon, it's a far better film than Madagascar, Shark Tale or Shrek The Third.

What struck me the most about it is that the way Oh interacts with Tip and tries to understand her world without quite getting it is extremely Aspie-like and the film could, no joke, be used as a teaching tool with NTs to explain through Oh's character arc the trouble we have trying to understand and fit into a world that isn't made for us.

On top of that, the film has some very positive messages about how people from different cultures may not truly understand one another, but it's worth making the effort to try. There is also a positive moral about running away from problems not solving anything and I think that's important for kids to learn.

Top it off with genuinely funny humor, catchy music and some very nice visuals and you have a film that could have been great with just one more polish of the script but doesn't quite make it. Still I would highly recommend it as one of the most creative animated films I've seen in quite some time and if you're a fan of animation like I am, in this case, good is good enough.

Saving Mr. Banks.
As a child I didn't care much for the Mary Poppins movie itself, but it seemed interesting to learn about what went on before that.
Some parts I liked, but most of it felt like utter fabrications, and not true to the main character they introduced. I read up on the subject after the movie, and wasn't surprised to learn that P.L. Travers greatly disliked Mary Poppins.

I do wonder if she would have liked the stage musical any better as it is VERY different from the film and, I suspect, is probably closer in tone to the original books while retaining a number of the film's songs for purposes of marketability.

I re-watched District 9 because it's one of my favorite science fiction films. I have a Blu-Ray copy of Grand Budapest Hotel which I hope to get to soon...I've seen two Wes Anderson films, and I have to say I'm not exactly a fan (one of those films I absolutely despised). But GBH looks interesting, and I'm a huge Ralph Fiennes fan.

The recent HBO documentary Going Clear, about Scientology. I have family members who are deep into the Church, and all I could think all throughout this film was, "My God, that's F***ED UP!"
