    I might be mean

My annoyance is with those friends (acquaintances) and family who ask "How are you, how have you been?" and I am either forced into a "OK I guess..." and then they move on to talk about anything else. Or I say "Not so good." and they go "Oh well, we can't have everything." or say something...

    I might be mean

So... have you ever answered a phone call, or met a friend or family member and they ask how you're doing? Most likely the answer is yes. It took me nearly 5 decades, but I finally realised, and internalised, that most people really don't want an honest answer to that question. In the past...

    Flapping my hands

I have a photo of when I was about 1, I have a cookie in one hand and the other one is up. I always looked at it and knew I was flapping my free hand. I don't exactly remember doing it, but when I looked at that photo, I always knew that that hand wasn't stil.🤷🏻‍♀️ That is my faint memory of it...

    Flapping my hands

I think they might do, but probably not to the same degree, not so prominently. For me, most of my stims are "quiet" ones, unobtrusive. If my fingers wiggling bothered someone, I started wiggling my toes, nobody noticed my toes wiggling inside the shoes. If tapping my fingers on a desk or...

    Flapping my hands

For the first time, since I was very little, I flapped my hands, and it felt good. I was trying to calm down. These are the last few days before the move, and my stress is stressing me out.😵‍💫 I was feeling like my whole body could explode, and did what I usually do, I clasped my hands...

Anyone Else Feel Like They Don't Belong?

You just wrote my personality résumé.

    On interests and activities.

Doing something the very best way I can, not doing a half-assed job of it. If I learn a language, I learn it! Grammar and all 😅 I love the intricacies of languages. I love discovering the connections with other languages. Like the Kine Greek word mastigoó, which literally means to scourge...

    A Change in Climate

Another saying we have in my family is, always be dressed for an emergency 😬😅😆 Imagine there's a fire, or earthquake, and you have to leave the house, immediately! I'd rather have a t-shirt and shorts on 😂

    On interests and activities.

I'm still interested in learning Greek. But there's always something to butt in 😅 I know I'll feel frustrated if I can't dedicate enough time to it, so I won't get started, again, until I can pour my full (almost) attention into it.

    A Change in Climate

I bought a little vintage weather station in Switzerland. It marks humidity as being at 100% all the time 😂 It's either broken, or it was calibrated for Swiss weather 😜😂

    I Remembered Why I Don’t Tell People I’m Autistic…

Funnily enough, I do both 🙈 I check and recheck things, and still managed to get locked out of my house on more than one occasion 😅

    A Change in Climate

Only in spring, autumn and winter. Summer is actually hotter 😫 But the houses are better insulated because it gets so cold. So, hopefully, summers will be more bearable.😬

    On interests and activities.

Is it a trait of autism to not be able to dedicate equal amounts of time to different interests? For instance: a couple of years ago I finally had the chance to have my lifelong dream of learning biblical Greek come true. But, at the time I was going through a "crochet all the time" phase. I...

    A Change in Climate

We have a saying in our family. In winter you can always wear one more layer, in summer you can't take everything off 😅 I can't stand the hot weather. It takes me down, it gives me headaches and even nausea at times. The only way to fight it is to lay very still in a well ventilated place, in...

    A Change in Climate

Bland weather is good though. No wind, no heavy rain, no thunderstorms, not cold or hot... But cold is nice though 🥰 it's nice and comfy. You can crochet for hours without getting your hands all sweaty, or go for a walk without getting all yucky and hot and overtired. I'm soooo glad that...

My name is Jess, I think I may be on the spectrum

Welcome Jess. If you can be assessed, why miss that chance. I'm having to go through hurdles to get mine. Our NHS doesn't test adults, only children. I have to go at it through private clinics. One seemed to think they were doing me a favour, even if I have to pay everything myself, in full...

    A Change in Climate

I can't imagine wanting for summer to come 🙈 I would rather have a sunny winter day. Cool but bright. I'd gladly exchange the Portuguese climate for somewhere like Switzerland or Oslo (Minnesota), where I have friends who complain about the snow and long winters. I miss the snow so much.

My humble rock collection, ready to move to our new home.

It went OK. In the end I didn't get the stone house. But the idea of having to learn to drive was becoming a bit stressful, then there's the fact that I'm getting older, and might later need to be somewhere with better transportation. I can't see myself going through another move. This one is...

    I Remembered Why I Don’t Tell People I’m Autistic…

I check to see if the doors are locked, to see if my keys are where they should be, to see if things are properly plugged in, etc. etc. etc. 🙈 If I'm having to wait somewhere, I'll find anything that forms "sets" of 3x3. It has to be 3x3. Other sets don't work, aren't right 🙈
