There was a guy who rode his bicycle over the Andes, and when he was finally descending, and up to flying speed for a Condor, one glided beside him for a short, wonderful time. The Condor may have just been checking for an opportunity to tip him off the cliff for an easy meal.

These creatures are almost extinct now, but for a very long time they were the only living creatures on our planet and they gave us the oxygen rich air that we love so much. Stromatolites.

And if I remember correctly, they are only found in Australia and were discovered by the scientific community fairly recently.
I saw them on a David Attenborough documentary, they've been known about since the 70s. And I think there's a few places in the world where they still exist, but Western Australia's the only place where you'll find large fields of them.

I can't find a thread this fits into but I think it's an interesting news story, so I'll just randomly leave it here. It says they found a rock crystal, could it be a sunstone used for navigation? 🤔 That would be a very significant find.

I agree, it'll be interesting to see what sorts of things they can find out about them.

[Edit] I can't find it anywhere now, the story reminded me of another find a while back, an ancient mummified Bedouin man. He had set up camp for the night and cooked and eaten, then had a heart attack and died. The sand dunes drifted over him and preserved the whole lot for about 2000 years.

Besides the rock crystal, I especially noticed this:

"One of the most notable discoveries is the grave of a woman, believed to be of noble standing, who was buried in a wagon, possibly the one she traveled in during her life. Her grave goods included a glass bead necklace, an iron key, a knife with a handle wrapped in silver thread, and a small shard of glass that may have served as an amulet. At the foot of her grave was a finely decorated wooden chest, the contents of which remain a mystery."

This could be someone historically important. I would give a lot to be able to look at the content of that wooden chest. Most likely her most treasured and personal belongings. When they find viking women buried like that, it's always special. Could be a local Queen. How exciting. :D
