I was waiting for some attempts first, I assumed this one was so boringly easy, no-one could bring themselves to try!

To be honest I thought it's be guessed immediately! I figured all those lines would give it away.

Ok, well, I'd happily give you a clue but at the moment it's not a convenience for me.
But would that be papering over the cracks? I used to be one of the earliest sources of the chemical industry, though it didn't stop me being called a stinker for it!

The longer you wait, the worse that grows.
Why this would be the riddle I chose,
I bet the devil and god only knows.

Yeah, I have no more guesses on my end either as stumped me. A tree trunk cut off made me think of a stool, as did some of the other clues. Likely the answer is something else though that I never thought about before.

I mean...
What's golden and splashes? Something you naturally produce? That can give you a rash if not cleaned up?
C'mon folks, you do this a few times a day, usually!
You'll be so relieved at the answer!

Feces type of stool, but the golden and light and splashes made me then think of urine, but ordinarily I do not think of that as the stinkiest, if flush right away so my mind went back to the first answer mentioned, although dogs can use tree trunks for the yellowish gold stuff, and humans can sit down or stand for that. But what do those examples for answers have to do with sobbing for instance?

Well, consider the mention of rushing, and not making it in time? (the rashes too!).
Yes, of course it's wee-wee, urine, or even a pee!

And the smell comes about if not cleared up! Day old urine isn't the choicest of aromas!

No, not at all! Think on kids who couldn't hold it in? (I did make a bit of a thing about rushing for the toilet).

Urine was an early source of ammonia in particular, a most useful chemical and an early example of humans synthesising compounds for specific uses (chemical industry).
