What video game are you currently playing?

That is a good question -- not yet! Do you have any recommendations? I don't think I've actually explored the genre otherwise :D

Well, let's see... There's a couple of others that I'd classify as being huge things like Factorio is, which would be Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Program. Satisfactory is played in a first person view, not top down, so it's all 3D and stuff (which was novel when it first hit early access, but there are plenty of others in the genre doing that now too). It's really good at making everything easy enough to learn. The pacing is oddly slow at the start though, but that doesnt last too long. Great sense of scale in this one too. You should see some of the wild things players have made, big huge structures and whatnot.

Dyson Sphere is what I'd call the most expansive one. You'll have all these planets and you can build factories on every one of them and that all feeds into the one big goal, and it's just... yeah it's better to have a look at that one for yourself, it's confusing to describe. I havent played this one yet myself, it's on my "buy eventually" list, but everyone seems to just adore it.

Some others... Factory Town is another one I like, pretty traditional in its approach, but you dont have a character that you control or anything, it controls more like a city builder sorta. That's in 3D too, so you can build all sorts of tangled messes.

Shapez is a really good starting point, I think there's a free version of it, it's drastically simpler than most things in the genre but also a lot more freeform and relaxed. The sequel just released into early access very recently, I've not played the sequel myself though.

Mindustry, it's like a sort of... factory game + wave defense sort of thing. So it's emphasizing the "things try to eat you" part.

Lastly, Captain of Industry is more realistic in terms of its theme, so you're going to see like actual construction equipment and things that are (mostly) down to earth. While still having a million tangled bits, because it's not a factory game if you cant make a ridiculous spaghetti mess. This is another one I want to get, but it's the one that also looks the most intimidating.

There's also various games that are sort of like, genre adjacent, if that makes sense. Hydroneer is one I constantly hear about, everyone loves it, I'll get it myself sooner or later, it looks quite good.

Same here, all 3 of the original Total War series. The remakes suck, the originals are far better.
I hate Total War! Two primary reasons:
1. I loved the idea but couldn't get my head round the tedium of having to learn all the pros and cons of units to exploit their advantages etc. To impatient and impulsive to win those games much as I like the idea.
2. The buggers are based in my home town, and they never gave me a job when I applied for it! How dare they! (ruddy video interviews! 🙁)

Personally I prefer the second reason myself! 🙄😏

On factory type games (construction kits) there's the Kerbal Space Program, which has some entertaining ideas to play out if you like the idea of showing NASA how it's done!
(What do you mean, we've got to get him back from the moon too! 😁)

Baldur's Gate III, Persona 5R, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Depending on why you got stuck at that point, it might be worth another try. They made a Basic Oil Processing recipe to make the ramp up to oil stuff easier to climb.

The developers have a fantastic blog. These talk about the changes to oil:

Fluids in general were also dramatically improved in the free Factorio 2.0 update. They made how the fluids move around in pipes much simpler and easier to use.

These posts cover the fluid changes:

My head is still in Fallout New Vegas, I already started a new playthrough a few days ago. I'm thinking about starting an in-game collection of armor, weapons, skill books etc. Though I wonder if that will not ruin my enjoyment / freedom I feel in the game. Does anyone else do this in games? I've done it before in Fallout 3 and 4. Though most of my stuff was not really in display, just sorted in various lockers and chests.

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco reveal ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN

As Night Falls, We Rise in a New ELDEN RING Adventure

The world of ELDEN RING™ is getting a standalone multiplayer co-op action survival game that challenges players to band together in order to defeat the Nightlord.

Developed by FromSoftware, Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., the upcoming game, ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN will thrust players into co-op multiplayer PVE combat against a harsh and unforgiving world.

Teaming up in squads of three – or daring to go solo – they must outlast a three day-and-night cycle, making split decisions about combat and exploration across changing maps to become strong enough to take down terrifying bosses at the end of each day.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN will launch in 2025 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

Players take on the night together in an all-new experience from the team at FromSoftware. ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN will be a multiplayer-focused return to Roundtable Hold, set in a universe parallel to the events of ELDEN RING. Players must choose from eight unique characters, each with their own unique abilities and powerful Ultimates.

Their journeys take them to Limveld, where they will have to make split-second decisions when it comes to combat and exploration in the face of a night cycle that shrinks the map with the coming Night’s Tide.

At the end of each night, players will face a powerful boss and, if victorious, awaken to bigger challenges. Each session will culminate in the third night when they must face off against the chosen Nightlord. Individuals can fight the night alone, but strength will come in numbers. Nightfarers must learn to cooperate to take down these challenges, combining their unique abilities together for an unparalleled experience in the ELDEN RING universe.

All is not lost for those who fall in defeat. Unsuccessful runs will grant players relics to allow them to customize and upgrade their characters tailored to their personal play styles.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is unlike any experience created before by FromSoftware. In this condensed action RPG, players will never experience the same journey twice as enemies, rewards and Limveld itself are ever-shifting and evolving each session in the realm of the Nightlord, Defeating greater enemies and venturing into the more dangerous parts of the map will uncover more powerful weapons and greater Rune rewards.

Find Sites of Grace to give each hero a chance to level up and gain crucial power. With each session-based adventure being akin to playing through an open-air dungeon, every journey provides an opportunity to grow lasting stat bonuses.

Successful runs against the night bring players ever closer to defeating the realm of the Nightlord and unraveling the story behind each Hero in this parallel world.

I've been playing a lot Astro Bot on PlayStation 5. Definitely GotY. When it was first announced I was disappointed they didn't release it in VR but if it was between releasing a flat version or not releasing the game at all, I'll gladly take what we've got.

I found a detective role play game on my phone where you look for clues, examine evidence, and question witnesses to solve a mystery but after I got so far in they want you to pay to continue so I don't suppose I'll be finishing that. Does anyone have any recommendations that I might like based of of my interests?
