Good morning/evening.

Oh, I immediately have a lot of questions for you, but I'm not sure should I ask here, or how do I write in private... and would you even be interested in writing me your autobiography haha
I'm just interested in other people's lifes and how they came to the point where they are now, and you sound like you have a very interesting life
Plus you already made me go and google more info about "twice exceptional" and "ASD2" so thanks for immediately introducing me to new things :)
My pleasure:-).
I have written a bunch of of stuff peppered all throughout the forum, so I'm sure you will encounter plenty of my posts, detailing all sorts of stuff about me and my life. I' m a little bit of a prolific poster and very upfront and open about myself, so loads of autobiographical content to be viewed.

I have had a couple of less-than-emotionally-comfortable experiences private messaging so I'm not ready to try that again with anyone for a while, but considering how open I am (I even use my real name) you can pretty much ask me anything and I'll happily answer. Nothing suggests you would not be awesome to dm with, just my own trauma issues rearing their less-than-pretty head.

Funny you should mention writing my autobiography, I've have, actually, had a few people, even a university writing teacher, suggest I write my autobiography because of how interesting they thought my life was. It certainly has been a not-conventional life, in quite a few ways.

You sound very cool and interesting yourself. I hope you stick around, so we can get acquainted. :)

Welcome to the forum @Tired Anna :)
I've been here ever since I was diagnosed in my mid-fifties. I'm 66 now.
You'll see a lot of my posts around and I'm always very open.
I like to add my experiences that might help others or answer their questions.

We are quite the mixed group here and talk about many different things.
I hope you find it as interesting as I have.

Hi @Tired Anna , welcome and thank you for joining the forum. I saw you were a game designer in your profile, I assume it is software games? If so, I'm quite sure you have (had) a couple of autistic co-workers, even they might not know it them self :)

Above you asked how to write in private, there is a little letter icon at the top for private messages, or click on a profile and select the start conversation option.
Hello and thanks! Yup, we're making mobile, pc, and switch games :)
I actually started asking my coworkers do they know anyone autistic, and everyone says no, it sounds like it's something ultra rare, but something tells me that people here are just not into mental health, so I guess that's why

Hello and thanks :)
May I ask why did you get diagnosed so late? From what I know so far it's something which can be found pretty early

Oh I already see a lot of interesting posts, I don't have much time to answer to most of them so I just check what others are writing. I actually wasn't sitting on any forums for like... uh, i guess 15 years, i'm used to chats, but I didn't find any active chats for Autistic people, so it was time to get acquainted with forums again haha

Hi. Just wanted to mention we have a in-forum D&D game just getting started if you are interested.

Here is link to it:

Role Playing Game (4 to 10 players needed)

I've been on ASD forums now about 12 years. 8 of those I believe here. I collect Toy Soldiers, Lion King Cards and Chihuahuas. Though we are just down to two right now. ;)
Oh, I've actually never had a real DND game, i'm mostly just roleplaying random stuff or just playing RPG games, so I think I'll check it out, thanks :3
I didn't know there are Lion King cards! I know that people collect sports cards and pokemon cards :D Do you have photos of how that looks like?
And what type of Toy soldiers? My dad once bought me those ultra cheep plastic toy soldiers, and I loved playing with them more than with my dolls, probably cause dolls looked kinda creepy to me and those soldiers looked like realistic humans so I could connect to them :)
Ah, the demon dogs, I heard only that they are ultra crazy pets, never actually met one irl. Are yours cuties or also demons? :D

I think that might be it (I'm in the sw industry too), it was always a joke we said about many programmers being autistic, then I worked at a place where about half the people with children, had one or more of their children that were either autistic and/or adhd - kind of makes you think about the genetic factor :)

Hello!
Ah, I can't remember when the last time I actually walked bare feet (beaches don't count). Probably when I was a kid... I like your quotes.
As you like reading books, are there any books which portrait romantic interactions with ASD people? I mean specifically romances where one of the main characters is autistic. Or maybe some films about this? I watched so far only the "Mozart and the Whale".

My pleasure:).

I'll surely check it out once I remember how to use forums cause I didn't use them for like 15 years or so haha
And I'm really sorry to hear about bad DM stuff. I myself as a gamer got bullied a lot for being a woman (go to the kitchen and worse stuff things), so I kinda feel you about that. Just tell me where I can talk to you without making you feel uncomfortable and we can do that :)
I think all people should write at least one book in their life, and if they don't have inspiration - sometimes autobiography can be the best choice, because most of us have such bizarre lives, it just sounds like a story of its own! So... if you ever do choose to write it - you have at least one reader here waiting for it haha

May I ask what's your profession? And how did you get into that profession at all?
I know that our industry right now is firing people left and right, so I'm glad to hear that you aren't one of those unlucky ones

Kind of both. It depends on one's perspective often. As in to strangers they can be very hostile but to owner(s) just the cutest thing ever. I've had 4, who have all been the sweetest they can be with all my family and are excellent with people, but they will charge at anyone/anything barking furiously in certain situations. But with people they will stop as soon as they get there and wag their tails and want to meet you.

They have made Lion King cards on and off since the movie came out. It began as a hobby for me and my daughter to share. She hasn't retained the interest but my collector genes did, so I keep it going. She does like to join in when I can get inopened packs and we see if we get some rare card. They do make entire series of cards on the subject but more usually it's a general Disney series and a few of the cards are from the Lion King. I also collect the collectible sticker sets and anything remotely card like, including occasional premiums that come in cereal boxes or other food products. Many are from foreign countries and very hard to find, like Turkey, Argentina, Japan. 99.9% of cards, are not, in my opinion ever going to be worth anything (despite the small fortune I've spent over 30 years) so it's just done for the enjoyment and thrill of the hunt. Here is what it looks like in their binders.

I was fired in Spring (Northern hemisphere) last year, but found a new job where they are very kind and giving me the accommodations I need, so it turned out to be a good thing :)

I'm a programmer (a special interest) I have mainly worked with embedded systems - I was stuck in University, so applied for a sw job, I never came back to University :)

I have tons of soldiers nearly all Historical based, but no pictures of them on this computer. But here is a stock picture of some Timpo crusaders c. 1960s/70s. Much of what I have is vintage from England which had more elaborate full color models. The US had good stuff too, particularly playsets but was nearly all unpainted or one color plastic. The classic green army men were (and are) still an entry level to the hobby and where I began. My prefered scale in a figure about 2 1/2 inches high, which lend themselves to having big formations.

That is only true of autism that requires special education (a.k.a. short-bus autism), ASD2/3. Some 2s fall through the cracks, too.

ASD1s can thrive in regular classrooms (a.k.a. long-bus autism), typically coming off as nerds, geeks, eccentrics, engineers, etc. We were not even recognized as being autistic until around 1980.* Autism before that would have been what we now call ASD2 or 3 (and was very rare, 1:10K).
https://autlanders.blogspot.com/2019/07/autism-subtypes.html*That is why so many ASD1s have received such a late diagnosis.
There are some "professionals" who do not even recognize ASD1 as being a real form of autism...!

Oh, I see. Do these dog breeds need any specific training, or are they just perfect family pets by default? I never had a dog, only a cat.

Do your "collector genes" mean that you have your relatives also collecting stuff?
Okay, this looks like... a lot of cards :D Sadly I don't have anything like this here in Serbia, wish I could actually send you smth for the collection, but alas. Man, 30 years... that's indeed a lot of collecting going on
And yeah, I myself collect stickers, so I understand that I spend money on stuff I don't even use and won't be able to sell later for any real money, but as long as it makes me happy it counts I guess lol

Huh, never seen these before, guess they weren't popular in Ukraine when I was young. They don't look that bad quality either, do you repaint them yourself or just leave them the way they are?

Oh, so you did affected, but in the end it was a good thing, glad to hear! :)

Programmers for me were always some super humans, I just can't imagine spending all my days writing codes and fixing errors, it sounds so damn hard and frustrating... yet I can understand the feeling of fixing problems and knowing you're the one who did that haha that's a great feeling, but only when you succeed
Wish I had a freedom to go away from university and go into writing, sadly my parents forced me to finish it and I hated every second of it. Happy to hear that it worked out better for you!
